Chapter 786: Gyats

Summary

After Luffy’s last giant Gum-Gum blow sends Doflamingo crashing, the city erupts in celebration — “Way to go, Rubber Ball!!!” — and Luffy’s Gear Fourth deflates with a hiss, leaving him exhausted and comically bouncing on spent legs (p. 3). But the Birdcage has not vanished: it keeps rumbling and tightening, and the citizens realize “Doflamingo’s still alive!!!” and still maintaining it (pp. 5, 11). Spent and unable to fight, Luffy is dragged clear and reveals the cost of his new power — his Gear Fourth form is “Bounce-Man,” and after using it he cannot use Haki for ten minutes; if he can get those ten minutes back he can finish Doflamingo “with one more move” (pp. 13–14). The Corrida Colosseum announcer Gyats carries him and, after Luffy promises that buying him ten minutes will “spell the end of his rule,” relays the deal. The tournament gladiators — who earlier tried to capture “Lucy” for the bounty — rally and pledge their lives to hold the line and buy that time, apologizing as a token of their faith (pp. 14–16). Meanwhile Jesus Burgess of the Blackbeard Pirates leaps down from the palace, declaring he’ll kill Luffy and steal the Gum-Gum Fruit (pp. 7–8), while Koala radios Sabo for help on a Den Den Mushi. As Burgess closes in on the helpless Luffy, Sabo drops in to block him at the cliffhanger — “SABO!!!” (pp. 16–17).

• Doflamingo survives the finishing blow. The Birdcage does not disappear after Luffy’s last punch — “Not enough.” / “The birdcage hasn’t disappeared yet!!!” (p. 5) — and the citizens conclude “Doflamingo’s still alive!!!” (p. 11). Doflamingo is shown grinning, still alive and conscious — maintaining the Birdcage (p. 12).
• Gear Fourth’s form is named “Bounce-Man,” with a stated post-use cost (pp. 13–14): “After doing Bounce-Man… I can’t use Haki for another ten minutes.” Luffy says that once his Haki returns he can “finish him off with one more move.”
• The Birdcage’s lethal contraction reaches the city in the present (pp. 10–11): the strings crack through the buildings (“K CRAK CRAK CRAK!!!”); citizens are told “there’s no escape!!!” and herded to converge at the town center.
• Gyats, the Corrida Colosseum announcer, is named (p. 13): a small/dwarf-statured man — “I’m Gyats, the Coliseum announcer!!” — who helps carry Luffy and confirms on-page that “Lucy the mystery gladiator was YOU all along.”
• Jesus Burgess moves on the Gum-Gum Fruit (pp. 7–8): having leapt down from the palace, “the Champion” declares “Don’t you move!! I’m going to kill you… and steal the Gum-Gum Fruit!!!”
• The tournament gladiators switch sides (pp. 14–16): the fighters who earlier coveted the bounty on “Lucy” now pledge to hold off Doflamingo and buy Luffy ten minutes — “That bounty on your head was too tempting before!! We were wrong!!”
