Chapter 902: End Roll

Summary

The Whole Cake Island arc closes “like a film’s end credits.” Pedro’s dying words echo over the sea (p. 4) as the Thousand Sunny flees Totto Land. A grief-stricken Sanji blames himself for Pedro’s death; Nami and Carrot console him, reminding him Pedro chose his own sacrifice to repay the Straw Hats for saving the Mokomo Dukedom (pp. 5–6). Brook plays a ballad — “the words of the soul” / “Soul Pocus” — that recounts the whole arc: Big Mom’s “false plot,” the sham wedding, Pudding’s act, and a flashback to the wedding-day turn where Sanji called Pudding’s hidden third eye “a beautiful eye,” her tearful “Thank you… and goodbye,” and Germa 66’s rearguard completing its mission and retreating (pp. 7–12). In the Mirro-World, the defeated Katakuri lies on his back beside Brûlée and finally admits his pride was a lie; a childhood flashback reveals he was mocked for his sharp pelican-eel mouth, that bullies he beat up scarred Brûlée’s face in revenge, and that he vowed to become a perfect, fearless man who never shows weakness (pp. 13–16). Katakuri uses his future-sight to pre-empt Brûlée’s questions, confirms Straw Hat left the territory, and Big Mom arrives — shown rampaging through her own realm, demanding treats from her subjects at the price of their lifespans or their lives (pp. 16–18). With “the help of a powerful shield” the Sunny clears the Empress’s waters; Sanji recovers enough to cook (pp. 19). The chapter cuts to the East Blue, where on the Baratie Zeff insists on feeding a group of starving “bad guys” — “Even the bad guys need to eat” — paralleling Sanji serving his own crew (pp. 19–20).

New reveals

• Katakuri’s origin (pp. 13–16): his concealed mouth is a ripped, sharp-toothed “pelican eel” mouth he was bullied for as a child; when he beat up the bullies, they took revenge on his sister Brûlée, scarring her face. He blamed himself (“it was my fault this happened to her”), and Brûlée consoled him (“you’re fine the way you are”). He then resolved to “make them fear my perfection” and “show no weakness” — the etiology of his perfectionist persona, his hidden mouth, and his claim of never falling on his back (which he now admits “was nothing but a lie”).
• Pedro’s motive (pp. 5–6): Carrot tells Sanji the Straw Hats saved the Mokomo Dukedom (Zou), and Pedro came to Totto Land “to repay that favor” of his own free will.
• Big Mom as queen (pp. 17–18): “Soul Pocus, our Mama so material” — she extorts treats from her own subjects on pain of forfeiting years of their lifespan (“Will it be years off your life? Or your life itself?”) or their lives (“Life… or… DEATH?!”).
• Pudding’s farewell (pp. 9–12): flashback recaps Big Mom calling Pudding “my little dolly,” Pudding’s self-loathing over her third eye (“I’m a hideous, monstrous freak”), Sanji’s “…beautiful eye…” line, and Pudding’s tearful “Thank you… and goodbye…” over the unconscious Sanji — a film-strip “one last thing before you go” beat (the Memo-Memo / memory motif). Her heart-turn is now genuine.
• Germa 66 rearguard (p. 12): “Mission complete!! Germa’s retreating!! Back to the ships, Germa 66!!!” — the Vinsmoke force covered the Straw Hats’ exit.
