Chapter 824: Playing Pirates

Summary

Aboard the Thousand Sunny, the Sanji-retrieval team reads a newspaper reporting that the Blackbeard Pirates leveled the Revolutionary Army’s HQ — its location leaked by an anonymous source — before the Navy and Cipher Pol arrived; no fatalities are reported. Working it out, Luffy at last grasps that Monkey D. Dragon, the Revolutionary leader, is his father, and that his brother Sabo is the Army’s Chief of Staff; Nami notes Robin spent the timeskip serving under Dragon. A storm and a galley fire (Luffy’s cooking) batter the ship as Carrot — a stowaway from Zou — reveals herself with Electro. Back on Zou, Bariete confesses Carrot slipped away, and Duke Inuarashi, relieved she is with Luffy’s group, voices a darker worry: the enemy likely found Zou using a copy of its Vivre Card. In a certain land, a crying-drunk Emperor laments that Doflamingo’s (“Joker’s”) capture has ended the SMILE arrangement — no more Gifters — and, turning into an angry drunk, crushes Eustass Kid’s crew for “playing pirates” in his business. On the Sunny, the crew starves after Luffy ruins the food. Several days later, on Big Mom’s ship near Tarte 28, Baron Tamago and the Fire-Tank gunman Vito escort a captive Sanji toward Whole Cake Island, urging him to follow Germa 66’s example and join the Big Mom Pirates’ operation; Sanji refuses — until Vito shows him a photo of his bride-to-be, Charlotte Pudding, the 35th Charlotte daughter, and he is instantly smitten.
