Summary
On the wrecked streets of Water Seven, the still-naked Franky refuses to join the Straw Hats and demands his trunks back, drawing jeers from the townsfolk (p. 2). Robin offers to “help,” sprouts hands with a Dos Fleurs and grips Franky’s crotch to make him hold still and confess his real reason for staying (pp. 3–6). Franky’s flashback recounts his dream of building a ship — and Iceberg cuts in: the crew’s new vessel “still isn’t the ship of dreams,” because a ship only earns that name once it reaches the end of the ocean, battered through every battle but glowing brighter than any other (p. 7). Iceberg then strips Franky’s excuse bare: he never stopped shipbuilding out of a dead dream but out of guilt over Tom’s death — and orders him to forgive himself and live (pp. 8–10). The Franky Family detonates onto the scene to reveal they stole his trunks so he’d have no choice but to leave with the Straw Hats and chase his dream (pp. 11–15). A weeping Franky relents; Luffy declares the crew’s shipwright will be Franky, and Franky accepts — a new crewmate (pp. 16–17). With Garp and the Marines returning to attack from the island’s far side and Zoro and Sanji already in trouble, the crew must flee at once; Franky bids a tearful farewell to his Family, Galley-La, and the city, then sets off — promptly stripping again (pp. 16–19).
New reveals
- Franky joins the Straw Hat Pirates as the shipwright. Luffy: “All right! Your shipwright’s gonna be me! Franky!” — Franky: “Fine! I’ll take care of it!” → “We got a new crewmate!” (p. 17). The crew’s long-open shipwright slot is filled.
- The Franky Family stole Franky’s trunks to force their boss off the island and into the crew (“Was that your big idea, you birdbrains? Turning me into a pirate?”, p. 11) — a deliberate act of love so he’d chase his own dream.
- Franky’s true motive, named by Iceberg: he stayed in Water Seven and gave up shipbuilding not for a dream but out of guilt for Tom’s death, atoning by protecting the city Tom loved (pp. 8–9). “Forgive yourself, Franky! You have to… to live out your dream.” (p. 10)
- Franky Family founding flashback (p. 14): a younger Franky gathered Water Seven’s hungry street orphans (“Bring me everyone who’s hungry!”), founding the Family — Zambai among them.
- Garp has returned; the Marines are massing on the far side of the island and hunting the crew, forcing an immediate escape (“Your grandfather came back, Luffy!”, p. 16). Zoro and Sanji are caught in the trouble (p. 15).
