**The Lapins are protecting their cubs** (pages 8-9, 17-18). Mid-chase, Luffy realizes *'What're they so mad about!!?'*. After the avalanche subsides and Luffy/Sanji are buried in the rubble, the Lapins re-emerge — *not* to attack, but to dig in the snow with the cubs squeaking (*SKRITCH SKRITCH*). The Lapins' aggression was maternal defense, not predation. Summary

Bighorn village (p. 2) — Dalton and the villagers shout that the snow rumbling down the mountain “won’t stop!! It’ll bury us all!!!” — “Get out of the village!! Hurry!!!”. Luffy gets caught up in the rushing snow, and as he tumbles past flailing Lapins he asks aloud “What’re they so mad about!!?” — first hint that the Lapins’ aggression has a reason.

The avalanche set-piece (pp. 10-12) — Sanji, carrying the unconscious Nami, races down the slope. An outcropping (rock face) looms ahead. Luffy yells “AAH!! A ROCK!!!” and warns “You can’t crash! Nami’s on your back!!!”. Sanji (calm, eyes closed in a heroic close-up): “A lady requires… a gentle touch.” KRASH!!! — Sanji takes the impact face-first to spare Nami the shock. Luffy grabs his collar with a stretchable arm (BWOING / WH-AP!!) — “Don’t try to hog the glory!!! Cut to Bighorn (pp. 13-14) — the avalanche is heading for the village. Wide shot: the snow-wave bears down on the cluster of conical-roofed houses (THWOOM… ‘It’ll bury the village!!!’ ‘Run!!!’). Wapol’s party — already in Bighorn for the kill-order — turn to flee instead. Wapol calls his hippo: “Robson, serious mode!!!” SNORT!! — Robson (the Wooly Hippo) rises onto its hind legs into a fast-running form. Climax (pp. 15-16) — the villagers brace, screaming AAAAAAAH!!! — wide low-horizon panel: the avalanche actually stops short of Bighorn at the last moment. The conical chimney-rooftops of the village are still standing in the foreground, the snow having largely been absorbed by the slope.

Aftermath (pp. 17-18) — Lapins reappear on the wreckage and start digging — their cubs (small white rabbits) squeak nearby (SKRITCH SKRITCH GRAR GRAR). The Lapins were fighting Luffy and Sanji not as monsters but as parents protecting their young. Luffy bursts out of the snow (KROOOSH!!), still hauling Nami and the unconscious Sanji. Two cubs watch him. He runs on into the storm, gasping — “Don’t die!!! Either of you!!! …I’ll get you there, I promise!!!”. He spots Wapol’s retreating mount on the next ridge: “Look!! There they are, King Wapol… I’ll beat them to death!!”. Chapter ends mid-pursuit.

Page 19 — back-matter: Question Corner (SBS). Reader (the 20 Doctors): “Let’s begin the surgery.” Oda answers a reader question: Kuina and Tashigi are both named after birds (flightless ones), and so is Nojiko — referencing The Wonderful Adventures of Nils as a flying-flightless-bird gag.

Open questions raised

Will the avalanche actually spare Bighorn? The wide-shot on p. 16 shows the village still standing — but the survivors’ fate (and the village’s structural damage) is not yet detailed.
Where did Wapol’s party flee to? Wapol’s flee-direction is unclear; Luffy spots them on a higher ridge from his own slope position. They are no longer going to Bighorn but away from the disaster.
What is the real danger threshold of Nami’s illness? Sanji’s “A lady requires… a gentle touch” sacrifice and Luffy’s “Don’t die!!! Either of you!!!” both treat Nami as currently dying. The actual diagnosis and timeline remain off-page.
Will Luffy and Wapol clash before the mountain doctor is reached? Luffy’s “I’ll beat them to death!!” closer sets up a Luffy-Wapol collision; whether it happens before or after Nami reaches the doctor is unresolved.
What is the doctor’s name? Still referenced only obliquely (“a little farther and we’d have reached the doctor!!!”, p. 7). The on-page name (Dr. Kureha / Doctorine) has still not landed.
