A subordinate grand fleet of seven allied crews formed at the close of the Dressrosa arc (Ch. 799). After drawing lots to rank themselves, the seven captains exchange the Father-and-Son (oyako) sake-cup with Luffy — making him the “father figure / boss” and themselves his “sons / followers” — under the affiliation of the Straw Hat Pirates. 5,600 fighters in total. Luffy himself is baffled by the whole ceremony (“What the heck are you guys talking about?”). The fleet is a standing reserve pledged to aid Luffy — distinct from the Straw Hat crew proper (these are subordinate allies, not new crewmates). Notable events
- Ch. 799 — fleet founded aboard the Yonta Maria; the seven captains draw lots, rank themselves, and exchange the Father-and-Son cup with Luffy (pp. 16-17). 7 captains / 5,600 members “under the affiliation of the Straw Hat Pirates.” Pays off Colosseum Fighters Pledge To Luffy Grand Fleet Seed and Fake Luffy Builds A Grand Fleet Ironic Recruitment Parody.
- Ch. 800 — the ceremony is named the “Sons’ Cups” (with the reciprocal “Father’s Cup”): the seven captains drink the Sons’ Cups to swear themselves Luffy’s followers/“sons.” One-directional pact: Luffy declines the Father’s Cup and refuses to be their boss (“I just wanna be the King of the Pirates, that’s all”), recasting the bond as mutual rescue — each captain remains free and independent, pledged “of their own accord” to come to Luffy’s aid (and he to theirs) when called. Closing narration (pp. 16–17) warns the fleet will grow in power until it causes a future “incident of historic proportions” — see Straw Hat Grand Fleet Future Historic Incident.
- Ch. 903 — the World Economic Journal (Morgans) cites Luffy as commanding “seven powerful pirate crews” with “over 5,000 followers” (p. 7) — the first press acknowledgement of the Grand Fleet’s scale, folded into his “Fifth Emperor” billing. See Four Emperors (Yonko).
- Ch. 1131 — At Elbaf, Hajrudin’s Grand Fleet crew (#6) is named on-page the New Giant Pirates — his realized “future Giant Pirate Crew” (roster: Goldberg, Gerd, Stansen, Rodo). They reach Elbaf and escort the Straw Hats, hauling the Thousand Sunny up from the island’s Underworld to the village. See New Giant Pirates.
