Why this matters
The savior-captain-of-the-rejected archetype is established at East Blue scale with Zeff/Baratie. The captain is the savior of the rejected; the ship is all we’ve got in the world. Both phrasings recur at series-scale:
- Sun Pirates (Fisher Tiger): fishmen saved from human slavers; the captain dies; the ship/crew is all they have
- Whitebeard Pirates (Newgate): the sons of Whitebeard taken in from all backgrounds; Whitebeard is their father
- Sirahoshi-era Fishman Island (the human-slave-rescue arc)
Each instance has the cast-out + savior + ship-is-home triplet. Predictive use: any crew introduced with this triplet is being positioned as a morally-aligned crew with a captain-as-father-figure — the reader can treat them as protagonist-adjacent regardless of pirate/marine framing.
