“Whitebeard Jr.” · alive · one of the Seven Warlords of the Sea · former bounty 480,000,000
Profile
One of the Seven Warlords of the Sea, self-styled “Whitebeard Jr.” (former bounty 480,000,000). A massive, white-haired man who wields a giant bisento and wears Whitebeard’s jolly roger; the Marines note he looks and fights like a young Whitebeard. He claims to be Whitebeard’s biological son — a claim the World Government considers “impressive… if a bit suspect.” Spurred by his mother Miss Buckin, he hunts the surviving Whitebeard Pirates (and Marco) to claim Whitebeard’s “inheritance,” and seeks revenge on Blackbeard for killing “Dada.” His rampages cause enormous civilian damage (the A.O. Pirates were the 18th crew/town he destroyed, ~600 casualties). See Newgate.
Arc-by-arc updates
Sphinx flashback — defends Whitebeard’s hometown; captured by Ryokugyu (Ch. 1073)
- Single-handedly routs a Navy squadron harassing Sphinx for “Whitebeard’s treasure” (“Leave my dada’s hometown—!!!”); the Marines flee for reinforcements, his “strength is just that monstrous” (pp. 12-13).
- Then captured by Admiral Ryokugyu and imprisoned — per his mother, “sent to prison for protecting his own father’s village” (pp. 13-14).
Reverie aftermath (Ch. 956)
- On a New World island, his Warlord title revoked and the Navy surrounding them; Miss Bakkin urges him to fight, and Weevil vows to “kill ‘em all!! In da name of Whitebeard Jr.!!” (pp. 16-17). See Seven Warlords of the Sea.
Wano (prelude) (Ch. 909) — mentioned, not shown
- Reported by Marco to be hunting everyone tied to the Whitebeard name; Marco expects Weevil to come after him and the home island (NOT Wano). His mother Miss Buckin sailed with Whitebeard ~30-40 years ago. Evidence for Edward Weevil Hunts Marco And The Whitebeard Inheritance.
Zou (Ch. 802) — debut
- Introduced at Navy HQ as the newest Warlord; “tremendously powerful… just like the real Whitebeard in his youth,” wielding a giant bisento and wearing the Whitebeard jolly roger (p. 6–8; full-body reveal p. 8, bio caption “Self-styled ‘Whitebeard Jr.,’ former bounty 480,000,000”).
- Wiped out the A.O. Pirates (the 18th town blown off the map, ~600 casualties); pressed by Bakkin to seize Whitebeard’s inheritance and to consider Luffy as a lead to Marco (p. 6–11).
- Wants revenge on Blackbeard for killing “Dada” (Whitebeard) (p. 10–11). Seeds Edward Weevil Hunts Marco And The Whitebeard Inheritance, Edward Weevil Self-Styled Whitebeard Son Mirror-Image Tell.
Notes
- Etymology : “Edward” twins him onomastically with Edward Newgate / Whitebeard — the given name itself is part of the “Whitebeard Jr.” claim (Oda’s pirate-era “Edward” cluster, cf. the real Edward Teach / Blackbeard). “Wīburu” (ウィーブル) is officially romanized Weevil (a snout-beetle, the age-of-sail pest of ship’s stores) by VIZ, while the same katakana equally yields Weeble (the wobble-toy his egg-shaped body resembles) — a deliberate dual reading. Confidence high (Edward↔Newgate link); the Weeble layer is the softer secondary reading. Source: One Piece Wiki (Edward Weevil).
