Firsts
  • Vergo — Vice Admiral and base commander of Navy G-5 — turns his fists openly on his own G-5 men and savages Captain Tashigi when she alone moves to expose him (the deep-cover mole acts in the open)
  • Even as Vergo beats them, his adoring G-5 marines defend his image — 'a man of honor who always stands up for his band of outcast sailors' (present-day, p. 14); a flashback (pp. 11–12) shows his deep cover: he welcomed Smoker to the base and personally buried the Punk Hazard child-abduction reports as 'another false report' — institutional gaslighting of grieving parents
  • The dragons on Punk Hazard are 'legendary beasts engineered by Dr. Vegapunk to protect the island'; the smaller dragons are 'later, improved models' (quicker and hardier) that revive as the sedative wears off
  • Caesar Clown will sacrifice even Vergo — he orders the corridor sealed and the far gate re-opened to flood it with his 'Land of the Dead' gas, calling the trapped G-5 men 'MY test subjects'
  • Luffy and Smoker strike a battlefield pact racing to Caesar's control room: Smoker claims Vergo, Luffy claims Caesar
  • Sanji breaks off from the Brownbeard 'bus' to defend Tashigi against Vergo — 'I heard the sound of a lady's teardrops falling'
  • Luffy smashes into Caesar's control room to attack him directly — 'CAESARRR!!!!'

Summary

Two columns flee in parallel through the A–B connecting hallways of Caesar’s third laboratory: Brownbeard carries the Straw Hat group and Kin’emon (still desperate to reach his son Momonosuke) on his back, while in the next corridor Tashigi drives her panicked G-5 marines toward Structure B, resolved to escape Punk Hazard and warn Naval HQ about the “terrible weapon” being built here. A Vegapunk-engineered dragon — bred to guard the island — ambushes Tashigi’s column, biting through solid steel and breathing fire before suddenly fleeing past them (running from Smiley/Luffy off-page). Then Vergo arrives. The marines cheer their beloved Vice Admiral as a savior — until he begins beating them and brutally cuts down Tashigi, who alone knows the truth (“He’s not the man you think he is!! Stay away from him!!”). A flashback shows Vergo’s deep cover at G-5: a “man of honor” who welcomed Smoker, covered for his men, and buried the children’s abduction as “another false report.” As Tashigi cries for help, Sanji — having sensed “a lady’s teardrops falling” — flies off the Brownbeard bus to intervene. In his control room Caesar rages that the G-5 men are his test subjects and orders the corridor sealed and re-gassed with “Land of the Dead,” writing off even Vergo. Meanwhile Luffy and Smoker race for the control room and cut a deal — Smoker takes Vergo, Luffy takes Caesar — and Luffy crashes through the wall onto Caesar: “CAESARRR!!!!”

New reveals

  • Vergo turns openly against the Navy. The G-5 base commander beats his own adoring marines and savages Tashigi when she alone moves against him — the mole that Law exposed in Ch. 673 now acts in the open (pp. 9–14).
  • Vergo’s deep cover. Even as he beats them, his adoring G-5 marines defend his image — “a man of honor who always stands up for his band of outcast sailors” (p. 14); a flashback shows him welcoming Smoker to G-5 and personally dismissing the Punk Hazard child-abduction report as “another false report” — “Calling it an abduction at least gives them hope” (pp. 11–12).
  • The Punk Hazard dragons are Vegapunk’s. “Legendary beasts engineered by Dr. Vegapunk… to protect the island” (p. 6); the smaller dragons are “later, improved models” — quicker and hardier — and revive when “the sedative’s wearing off… its eyes have changed!!” (p. 16).
  • Caesar will sacrifice Vergo. He calls the trapped G-5 men “MY test subjects” and orders “seal the closer end of the hallway and re-open the far gate to let the gas in!!” — gassing his own enforcer along with them (p. 17).
  • Luffy–Smoker pact. Mid-sprint the two split the targets: “Vergo’s mine!!” / “I know… and I get Caesar! So don’t touch him!!” (p. 18).
  • Sanji intervenes for Tashigi — “I heard the sound of a lady’s teardrops falling” (p. 15).
  • Luffy reaches Caesar and bursts into the control room to attack — “CAESARRR!!!!” (pp. 18–19).
