Firsts
  • Luffy defeats Hody Jones — Gear Third hardened with Armament Haki ('my fangs are not for show') lands Elephant Gun and Elephant Gatling; the New Fish-Man Pirates' captain is announced 'defeated by Luffy'
  • Luffy uses Elephant Gatling not just on Hody but to destroy the legendary ark Noah, far above the island, to keep it from crushing Fish-Man Island; the ark is shown cracked and groaning in the final panel
  • Hody orders 'Fall, Noah, fall! Slaughter these fish-men who have lost their pride!' — his vengeance turns even on his own kind, and the New Fish-Man officers preach the chapter's thesis: 'Hatred is never forgotten! It is passed on... and will always lead to vengeance,' 'Death is another form of revenge'
  • Brook (the citizens' 'Skeleton Mask') counters the vengeance creed with a respect-for-life sermon — having actually died, he declares 'death leaves nothing but bones' and that he detests those who won't treat life with respect; he proclaims Luffy 'will one day be the king of the pirates'
  • Robin restrains the captured officers and forces them to watch — 'with clear, honest eyes, free from preconception' — that it is humans (the Straw Hats) fighting to save the Fish-Man District
  • Whitebeard backstory beat: the citizens recall him as 'the only human the people of our nation truly appreciated'; flashback narration — 'We shared a drink to mark our friendship,' 'years back, I owed a young Neptune a favor' — framing the Whitebeard–Neptune friendship that protected Fish-Man Island
  • Chopper takes a controlled Monster Point ('the little shrimp got huge') and keeps his mind — 'Don't worry, Usopp! I'm fine!'

Summary

High above Fish-Man Island, Luffy in Gear Third — fist blackened with Armament Haki (“my fangs are not for show, Straw Hat”) — trades his Elephant Gun and Elephant Gatling against Hody Jones, whose Fish-Man Jiujitsu (Water Heart, Shark Pack) is failing him as the energy steroids “take a toll.” But Luffy’s gatling is aimed past Hody at the colossal ancient ark Noah itself: he means to break the legendary ship apart before Vander Decken’s curse drops it onto the island, even as Hody screams “Fall, Noah, fall! Slaughter these fish-men who have lost their pride!” The island-wide broadcast updates the panicking citizens — Hody Jones, captain of the New Fish-Man Pirates, has been defeated by Luffy. Down in Conchcorde Plaza the surviving officers refuse to yield, preaching the inherited-hatred creed (“hatred is passed on… and will always lead to vengeance,” “death is another form of revenge”). Robin pins them and forces them to watch humans risk their lives for the Fish-Man District; Brook — the “Skeleton Mask” who saved citizens from their own officers — answers the death-cult sermon with a respect-for-life rebuttal, vows Luffy will be Pirate King, and finishes his fight. Sanji and a drunk-disarmed Zoro mop up their opponents, and Chopper drops into a controlled Monster Point, terrifying onlookers while assuring Usopp he is fine. The chapter closes on Noah — chained, cracked and groaning — as Luffy’s barrage tears into the ark.
