Structural lore — the lifespan-shortening “power drug” the New Fish-Man Pirates use to amplify fish-man strength.

What we know

  • Ch. 634 p. 18: Hody Jones dopes his own arm with Energy Steroids mid-fight (“Tump!! Blump!!”), grotesquely swelling it to charge Luffy. First on-page use of the steroids by Hody himself in the present-day battle (his crew’s mass augmentation established earlier). See Energy Steroids Shorten The New Fish-Man Pirates Lifespan.
  • Ch. 611 pp. 13, 15 — A single dose doubles a fish-man’s strength; two pills double it again (geometric scaling).
  • Ch. 611 p. 15 — Baseline: fish-men are already “ten times as strong as humans” (callback to Ch. 70); the drug multiplies up from that floor.
  • Ch. 611 p. 15 — Cost: the user’s lifespan is shortened“the price of that increased power is the shortening of our lives. But that won’t stop us from putting our plan into action!”
  • Ch. 611 p. 6 — Hody Jones swallows fistfuls at once despite his crew’s warning (“You’re taking too many at once again!”).
  • Ch. 615 p. 8 — Hachi warns the rallying pirates that “those energy steroids will kill you,” restating the lifespan cost from Ch. 611.
  • Ch. 617 p. 6 — Framed as gratuitous over-reach: Hody Jones is “still clean” (hasn’t taken a single Energy Steroid) yet is already “way stronger than Arlong” — the drug’s lifespan cost is paid for power he does not even need. See Energy Steroids Shorten The New Fish-Man Pirates Lifespan.
  • Ch. 629 p. 14 — Dependency reloaded: Hody Jones is “running low” and repeatedly demands more steroids during the Conchcorde Plaza assault planning — escalating the crew’s reliance just before the plaza march. See Energy Steroids Shorten The New Fish-Man Pirates Lifespan.
  • Ch. 630 p. 4 — Instant top-up: restores a depleted fish-man instantly — Dosun, drained “to tink” by Fukaboshi, takes one dose and snaps steel chains “beyond Dosun.”
  • Ch. 630 pp. 17-19 — First visible side effect: the lifespan cost manifests on-page — the crew states “that drug gives strength at the cost of a shortened life,” and Hody’s overdosed body begins “being torn to pieces” (THROB!!). See Energy Steroids Shorten The New Fish-Man Pirates Lifespan.
  • Ch. 631 pp. 12, 14 — The overdose transformation, shown in full: building on the body-tearing toll first seen Ch. 630, Hody’s hair has turned completely white and his body is visibly transformed/bulked; his crew recall he was “rolling on the ground in pain from taking too many Energy Steroids earlier,” and Hody calls the result “Perfect.” The lethal life-shortening payoff remains forward — do not flip. See Energy Steroids Shorten The New Fish-Man Pirates Lifespan.
  • Ch. 632 pp. 4-5 — The deciding factor at Conchcorde Plaza: the three princes were “winning and then [the officers] ate something… that suddenly turned the battle around.” King Neptune names the power as “gained through unnatural means” — the steroid mechanic shown deciding the plaza fight in the New Fish-Man Pirates’ favor.
  • Ch. 639 p. 12 — The drug is fed to Wadatsumi (a non-officer giant) to fight the Straw Hats; a crewman gloats “Wow, I guess his body is REALLY susceptible to pills!!” — the berserk transformation is not limited to Hody’s executives.
  • Ch. 639 p. 18 — Hyouzou swallows the steroids with his liquor and transforms into a monster; bystanders equate it with “when Hody went through his ‘awakening’” — confirming the steroid state is a chemical transformation, NOT a Devil Fruit awakening.
  • Ch. 641 p. 19 — Hody frames the lifespan cost as a willing trade at his climax: “No matter how much of my life I must shorten… I will have my revenge on humankind.” See Energy Steroids Shorten The New Fish-Man Pirates Lifespan.
  • Ch. 644 p. 9 — Origin of the supply (flashback): the Fish-Man District’s supremacist faction acquires the “legendary drug” to “unite the Fish-Man District against the throne,” and Dosun can manufacture them — establishing the New Fish-Man Pirates’ self-sustaining steroid pipeline.
  • Ch. 644 p. 3 — Cost manifesting: Hody is visibly aging/decaying mid-battle (“Sir Hody looks even more fearful than before!”) — the lifespan-shortening cost beginning to backfire on-page. See Energy Steroids Shorten The New Fish-Man Pirates Lifespan.
  • Ch. 648 pp. 12-13 — The aging cost, fully manifest: Hody Jones is hauled in chained, aged into a decrepit, monstrous old creature, horrifying the crowd (“to think there was such a creature living right near us”) — the visible aftermath of his Energy-Steroid abuse. (The steroid→aging mechanism is stated on-page nearby; recorded here as the visual consequence.) See Energy Steroids Shorten The New Fish-Man Pirates Lifespan.
  • Ch. 650 pp. 14-16 — The Energy Steroids ARE the Tamate Box pills. The Minister of the Left reveals they were “the legendary pills stored inside the Tamate Treasure Box,” whose contents vanished ten years ago; Hody Jones stole them around the time he left the royal guard. Too dangerous to be a true national treasure, the drug was labeled a “treasure” to keep it from the people. The legends: “some tales said it gave one the strength of a thousand… others said they aged the imbiber” — and the cost has now visibly aged Hody and his executives into decrepit old men (the Urashima Tarō tamatebako overlay made literal). “You opened a box that must never be opened.” See Tamatebox Treasure That Makes People Age Decken Wedding Plot.

Chronology / structure

A planted Chekhov’s cost: a power that explicitly trades the user’s life for strength. Introduced as the New Fish-Man Pirates’ enhancement and the engine of their threat tier above ordinary fish-men.
