Only A Wedding Cake Will End Big Mom's Craving Rampage
Status: confirmed (payoff Ch. 900 ) · Technique: chekhov-explicit
The seed
Ch. 899 pp. 3-5 — Perospero makes the cake-flavor the crew’s whole survival calculus
Perospero makes it doctrine: the crew’s three survival outcomes ALL pivot on the cake’s flavor (“Our fate rests within the flavor of that cake!!!”, p. 3), and Big Mom ’s leveling of Nuts Island proves nothing else stops the craving.
Ch. 889 pp. 7-10 — the cake sails as Big Mom’s “god of salvation”; Sanji forbids weaponizing it (folds the @0889

The substitute cake rides on Bege ’s ship toward Cacao Island as Big Mom ’s “god of salvation.” Sanji forbids Bege weaponizing it (poison + explosives) and stakes his cook’s pride on stopping Big Mom with flavor — establishing the cake as both the craving-bait and a contested assassination tool. Continues the plant.
Ch. 885 pp. 16-17 — the cake finished; sailing to the Sunny (folds the @0885

At Cacao Island ’s sweets factory (Chocolat Town ), Sanji finishes the substitute wedding cake with Pudding and Chiffon , crowning it with his secret cream “Simsim Whip” — “the true essence of sweetness” — explicitly framed as the means to “knock out Big Mom ,” and prepares to sail it toward the Sunny (pp. 16-17). The deliver-and-placate device is fully assembled.
Ch. 885 — name-etymology: “Simsim Whip” is itself a magic-key seed (
technique/name-etymology)
The name Oda gives Sanji’s secret cream is load-bearing. Per SBS (SBS Volume 93 ), シムシム Simsim = “sesame” in Arabic (سمسم) — the cream is literally a sesame whip — and Oda ties it directly to the magic incantation “Open Sesame” (افتح يا سمسم) from Ali Baba and the Forty Thieves , noting sesame was anciently believed to hold mystical/magical power. The “Open Sesame” key-that-unlocks motif maps onto the cake’s plot role: the named cream is the “magic word” meant to open /disarm Big Mom ’s craving rampage — a name-encoded reinforcement of the chekhov-explicit cake seed (introduced Ch. 885 p. 16).

Ch. 880 pp. 6-9 — the cook rebuilds the recipe; the bake begins (folds the @0880
Sanji's Substitute Wedding Cake Plan To Pacify Big Mom reader-create here, not forked)
The plan is staged beat-by-beat at Chocolat Town ’s Sweets Factory: Sanji identifies the cake’s ingredients by scent alone and reconstructs Streusen ’s week-long secret recipe so perfectly the chefs are stunned (“YOU did this, SIR?!!”); he directs the brutal timetable so “the ultimate cake is completed by the time we reach the Sunny,” all to stop Big Mom razing the country (pp. 6-9). Chiffon supplies the from-memory blueprint and Pudding runs the cover-up. A textbook chekhov-explicit setup — the cake is the load-bearing device for the arc’s escape climax.
Two halves of one chekhov setup land this chapter. First, Big Mom ’s craving fit will not abate “until she consumes what she desires” — the wedding cake Luffy destroyed; during the fit “she is hardly conscious” (pp. 3-4). Second, Charlotte Chiffon resolves to bake a substitute cake to calm her mother, framed as a debt repaid for the Straw Hats saving her sister Lola — “a woman’s honor” (pp. 16-17). The explicit problem (only the cake stops her) and the explicit means (Chiffon’s bake) are both on the table. See Big Mom Eats Her Own Subjects During Uncontrollable Sweets Cravings .
Ch. 876 pp. 9-10, 18 — the cook commits (folds the @0876
Sanji's Substitute Wedding Cake reader-seed here, not forked)
Pudding names a specific weapon against an Emperor: “Make the one cake that can possibly stop Mama… and then we’ll let you go!!!” (pp. 9-10). Sanji , a first-class cook, commits — “Yeah! In fact, I’m first-class at cooking anything!!” — and closes the chapter: “Let’s whip up a cake so good… it’ll knock Big Mom’s lights out!!! ” (p. 18), then rides off with Pudding & Chiffon toward Chocolat Town for ingredients. A textbook chekhov-explicit install: the named object (the substitute cake) is set up as the means to subdue the craving-illness.
The payoff
CONFIRMED Ch. 900 . Sanji’s substitute wedding cake — baked by Chiffon and Sanji over @0880–0887 — is fed to the craving-mad Big Mom on Fluffy Island and fully sates her craving-illness , ending her Totto-Land-wide rampage. The chekhov-explicit double-install (the unstoppable problem + the means) pays off exactly as planted: a cook’s cake pacifies an Emperor and saves a nation.
Big Mom tastes the cake and is overwhelmed — “What a wonderfully sweet, delicious cake! ♡ It’s to die for…” — her hunger pangs abate, and she announces “There will be no further damage!!” to all of Totto Land (p. 8). The substitute wedding cake set up since ~Ch. 876 halts the rampage and covers the Straw Hats ’ escape. (status pending → confirmed; payoff_chapter SET 0900.)
