the Lapins step between Wapol’s pirates and the Straw Hats
Kuromarimo’s Snow Powder Makeup pom-poms strike Lapins that have positioned themselves between Wapol and the fleeing Straw Hats (KA-BAM!! / THWUMP / THUMP / FWOOF ). Sanji is bewildered: “IMPOSSIBLE!! Lapins HATE humans!” / “They’re protecting him!!?” (p. 9). Luffy: “THANKS, LAPINS!! YOU SAVED US!!!” (p. 9). The Lapin pack blocks the pursuit through pp. 9-10 (wide opening panel: “LAPINS!! WHAT ARE THEY DOING!!?” ).
Why this matters. The Lapins — explicitly seeded across Ch. 0133 / 0134 / 0135 as carnivorous bear-sized rabbits that hate humans, the apex predators of the Drum Rockies — choose to shield Luffy. First on-page Drum-arc instance of the strange-creature-recognizes-Luffy register: a hostile-island predator-species switches sides for Luffy specifically. The mechanism is not explained (the Lapins do not speak). Pre-loads:
