Chapter 982: Scoundrel Meets Scoundrel

Summary

At Kaido and Orochi’s Fire-Festival banquet on Onigashima, the spy Kanjuro arrives in person and presents the captured Kozuki Momonosuke, gloating that his twenty-year “acting role” is finished. Orochi convinces himself the Akazaya samurai drowned with the decoy battleships and that Oden never revealed the route to Laugh Tale, then beats the boy bloody and orders a crucifixion stand raised on the stage to end the Kozuki line for good. Fukurokuju reports the opposite: Straw Hat Luffy, Zolo, Kid and Killer have already landed, and four pirates were sighted on the performance floor. Across the sea the raid is in fact unfolding — Nekomamushi’s mink “Guardians” climb the falls with Marco aboard; Law explains only one ship can reach the island’s entrance; Kawamatsu and the Scabbards approach; Denjiro’s Southern force, disguised as Kyoshiro, slips past and fells the Tobi Roppo Sasaki; Kin’emon’s Eastern force scores a direct hit; and Big Mom, spotting “the woman who kidnapped Zeus,” gives chase as Usopp, Chopper and Otama draw heat. Inside Kaido’s castle, Luffy barrels straight into the bickering Tobi Roppo Ulti and Page One — and nobody recognizes anybody.

• Kanjuro’s public unmasking pays out: he walks into the banquet as Orochi’s deep-cover agent, hands over the kidnapped Momonosuke, and openly mocks Oden as “a fool of a lord” (pp. 4–5).
