Chapter 760: The Same Bet

Summary

Before the palace steps, Sabo argues by Den Den Mushi with Koala, who warns that a revolutionary cannot fight a Naval Admiral over a personal grudge — but with Hack at his side Sabo insists his brother is in trouble and that “lady luck” is with him; it really is a gamble. On the former royal plateau, the Dressrosa citizens — conflicted after years of praising Doflamingo while hating the manipulated King Riku — cry out for Riku to save them. Admiral Fujitora vows not to let Dressrosa fall into war, confesses he has come to believe in Luffy’s victory himself, and rolls his dice: he is “laying a straight bet on Straw,” the same line King Riku has bet. At the top of the palace, Doflamingo reveals his Radio Knife cut Law so his body reattaches and his powers fail for minutes; Trebol traps Law in his sticky snot until Luffy yanks him free. As Bellamy shouts for Luffy to run and Doflamingo slashes, the Heavenly Demon launches into his origin: a Celestial Dragon by birth, his father chose to give up the family’s noble status and live as a human in this “cesspool”; the boy Doflamingo, at ten, killed his father and brought the head to Mariejois only to be rejected as the “line of traitors” — and swore to destroy everything the World Nobles hold dear.

• Doflamingo is a born Celestial Dragon; his father decided “one day” that the family of four should give up the greatest power there is and live among humans (page 12). This is the long-teased CAUSE of the Donquixote family’s fall — a voluntary abdication, not an expulsion.
