HOGBACK appears on-page and names himself for the first time — 'the famous Dr. Hogback,' Lord of the Mansion and Master Surgeon, who says he abandoned society because the medical establishment called his work to revive the dead 'madness'; he frames it as 'the eternal dream of humanity' to bring lost loved ones back to life (pp. 7-10).

Summary
Split between the mansion party and the landing party. Inside Hogback’s mansion, Nami, Usopp and Chopper are pelted with plates by Cindry, a dead-eyed maid, before the master surgeon Dr. Hogback welcomes them in, lavishes Chopper with praise, and explains he fled society to pursue his forbidden dream of reviving the dead — yet snaps that no one may EVER see his laboratory. When the trio mention the talking skeleton, Hogback and Cindry react with strange recognition. Suspicious that the mansion itself is full of zombies, Nami plans a quiet night escape — but an invisible man, who has overheard everything, ambushes her in the bath, vowing to make her his “bride”; Usopp’s Exploding Star drives him out a window. Meanwhile Luffy, Zoro, Robin, Sanji and Franky give up on the web-trapped Thousand Sunny, walk to the island’s “THRILLER BARK” entrance, and are confronted by the three-headed dog Cerberus.

- Dr. Hogback, in the flesh. The legendary “missing” surgeon teased in Ch. 445 appears, names himself, and reveals he left medicine because peers called his resurrection research “madness.” He calls reviving the dead “the eternal dream of humanity” (pp. 7-10).
