- The fog-bound island in the Florian Triangle is a predatory trap: a coachman, HILDON, drives a horse-drawn carriage that ferries shipwrecked travelers toward Dr. Hogback's mansion — then abandons them in the middle of a cemetery, reveals himself to be a bat-bodied creature, and flies off laughing as the dead rise (pp. 2-12).

HOGBACK is established (mentioned, not shown): a world-renowned master surgeon who 'gained all the fame and fortune a doctor can imagine,' saved countless lives with miraculous surgeries, then vanished ('went missing or was kidnapped') and is now rumored to be alive on this island 'conducting research beyond the scope of mankind' (pp. 3-4).

Summary
Nami, Usopp and Chopper ride a horse-drawn carriage driven by the coachman Hildon through the fog-choked forest of the island, heading for the mansion of the legendary surgeon Dr. Hogback. Hildon describes Hogback as a world-famous master surgeon who vanished from the medical world and now conducts research “beyond the scope of mankind” here. The trio keep glimpsing impossible things through the fog — a lion, dancing shapes, laughing faces — and panic, demanding to be returned to shore. Hildon obliges by abandoning them in the middle of a cemetery, then reveals himself as a bat-creature and flaps away cackling. Zombies erupt from the graves and swarm them; the corpses are freakishly strong and bite, but have no stamina and can only shamble. Usopp’s “Flaming Star” proves fire is devastating against them, and the three flee through the cemetery to Hogback’s mansion, hammering on the door at chapter’s end.
