A three-headed zombie dog · guards the forest of Thriller Bark · “the guard dog of Hell”
Profile
A three-headed zombie dog that guards the foggy forest of Thriller Bark, likened by the lost trio to “the guard dog of Hell.” Two of its heads are dogs and one is a fox — a stitched-together creature that is comically “sensitive about being part fox,” barking “yelp” / “welp” when its fox head reacts (Ch. 444 pp. 16-18). An early on-page tell that Thriller Bark’s monsters are surgically assembled and reanimated, prefiguring the craft of Hogback.
Arc-by-arc updates
Thriller Bark (Ch. 444) — first appearance; the three-headed guard dog
- Chases Nami, Usopp and Tony Tony Chopper through the fog-bound forest after they are thrown over Thriller Bark’s wall (pp. 16-18).
- Stitched dog/dog/fox anatomy — the “sensitive about being part fox” gag is an early tell of the island’s surgically-assembled, reanimated monsters. See Dr Hogback Named As Famous Doctor Master Of Thriller Bark.
Thriller Bark (Ch. 445) — referenced (not shown)
- The carriage trio recall having been “saved from Cerberus” just before this chapter; one of them remarks “I thought that Cerberus was a fictional monster,” with the others reasoning “that thing must have been some kind of mutant” (p. 3).
Thriller Bark (Ch. 446) — re-appears at the island’s main entrance
Thriller Bark (Ch. 447) — Zoro takes it out
- Shown on-page among the outdoor group’s encounters: a three-headed zombie hound (one head a fox), covered in “terrible wounds” yet alive. Zoro volunteers to “take care of” it, tries to calm it, is bitten, then one-punches it unconscious (“Dumb dog!”, pp. 2-5).
