Summary
Franky’s group commandeers a Marine escort ship (“I claim this ship in the name of Franky and friends!!”) and rams it out as the navy-free escape vessel, but the rescued pirates’ run is cut off: three Marine warships round them up in front of the main gate of Enies Lobby, the island burns behind them and the waterfall blocks the rear — there is nowhere to run as the Buster Call bombardment thunders on. Aboard, the half-drowned escapees are revived by an electric-eel jolt from Kokoro, who Zoro and Sanji realize is a mermaid (“an icefish mermaid”). Kokoro delivers a long mermaid-biology info-dump: mermaids are a mysterious species, the legend that they are dugongs “is true,” and at thirty — the prime of a mermaid’s life — a mermaid’s tailfin splits in two so she can live on land; “if you go to Fish-Man Island someday, you’ll understand.” By extension her grandchild Chimney is part-mermaid (Zoro: “You should have noticed! You’re her grandchild!”). Robin, brought aboard, is reunited with the whole crew and breaks down crying (“It’s because of you… thank you”).
