Chapter 119: Deadly Improvisation

Summary

After eating the suspect ale that ruptured his stomach, Dorry the Blue refuses to sit out his hundred-year duel with Brogy and rises to fight — invoking the judgment of Elbaph, the god of war as the reason he must take the field even with internal wounds (pp. 5-6). Luffy, enraged that the duel was sabotaged by an unseen enemy (p. 7), is brushed aside by Dorry as a human who has only lived for 10 or 20 years and cannot understand Elbaph’s sacred words (p. 7). The duel resumes off-screen with a single mountain-club exchange that ends in Brogy striking down a stomach-ruptured Dorry (p. 9). Cut to the bomb-planter: Mr. 3 (a tall, blank-faced agent with a candle-shaped pompadour) and Miss Goldenweek calmly congratulate themselves on the psychological warfare victory and reveal a fan of photographs of their next targets — Vivi, Luffy, Zoro, Nami, Usopp — and the boss’s secret mention (pp. 10-11). Their motto: Improvise and Conquer. Zoro, lost in the jungle, intuits the situation and mutters “rats” (p. 11). Meanwhile Nami is also lost; she encounters a triceratops in the dense brush, panics, and is suddenly snatched/disappeared in a WIP!! sound effect (pp. 12-15) — Karoo, briefly with her, is left behind in the chase. Usopp and Sanji, having heard her scream, reach Luffy and realize Nami has been taken. Vivi reads the situation immediately: some Baroque Works agents followed us to this island (p. 16). The chapter closes on Luffy learning Dorry has rushed back into battle with his guts still torn open — “It can’t end like this!!!!” (p. 17). Cover-arc backmatter: final chapter of Koby & Helmeppo’s Chronicle of Toil (“Garp Laughs as the Boys Fight Hard”). • Who is the Baroque Works boss whose secret the targets have learned? Mr. 3 references the secret but does not name it — the boss-identity mystery extends into a new tier (the boss has a specific secret the agents are protecting). Forward-payoff: Crocodile = Mr. 0 = Warlord, ~Ch. 174.
• Why is Vivi specifically the center photograph of the dossier? The compositional centering of Vivi (with the Straw Hats around her) implies she is the primary target — pre-loads the Vivi-as-the-actual-mission-target reveal that the Alabasta arc canonizes.
• What technique abducted Nami? WIP!! is the only SFX; no attacker visible. The mechanism is left as a one-chapter mystery (paid off next chapter as Mr. 3’s wax).
