Chapter 1150: Domi Reversi

Summary

At Elbaf, a bat-winged, trident-wielding Holy Knight — addressed only as “the Great One” — unleashes a demon-transformation power on the giants. Above ground the villagers are being overrun: the Holy Knight Killingham floods the island with monsters spawned from every “nightmare” (his “sleeptids” pour out of open “nightmare holes”), Sommers herds the captured giant children (“whelps”) into a line to be used as bait for a parlay, and Robin and Nami are held captive. Robin tries to intervene and is restrained; Luffy, Zoro, Sanji, and Hajrudin’s group are trapped far below in the Underworld and cannot help. The winged Holy Knight then casts her “Diabolical Covenant” / “Domi Reversi” — “under fealty to Mu… demons are the only proper form for life to take” — trading a giant’s lifespan for an undying body and monstrous strength. She turns Captain Brogy and then Captain Dorry into towering demons who attack their own crew, and charges them, as the new “Kings of Elbaph,” to hunt down and behead elder chief Beardhill Jarul. The Holy Knights coldly appraise the result as a weapon “to see how useful they will be in war,” declaring Elbaf will not be destroyed but “preserved and ruled over.” As the village burns and demonic Dorry and Brogy close in, old Jarul refuses to flee — “never tell a warrior to run from battle.”

Open questions raised

• Who is the bat-winged “Great One”? Robin says she is “the same woman up in the air” who “seems different from before” (p.6) — a Holy Knight seen earlier in the arc, now in a demonic form; her name is not given here.
• Is “Mu” the Mary Geoise sovereign Imu, and are the Holy Knights literally demon-worshippers in Imu’s service?
• Can the demon covenant be undone, and can Dorry and Brogy be freed before they kill Jarul?
• With whom do the Holy Knights intend to “parlay” using the captured children as bait?
• Why is a giant cursing “Gaban” (p.7) — is Scopper Gaban involved in Elbaf’s defense?
