Imus Descent Onto Elbaf Restages Kaidos Looming-Descent DOOM-Splash

What it is
A restaging of the vault’s flagship looming-descent DOOM-splash grammar — the fixed skeleton Oda reserves for the arrival of an overwhelming, page-owning threat: a colossal dark mass crashing/ looming into the upper register of a near-full-page panel against a heavy black-ink shadow/flame ground, a single oversized DOOM-family brush SFX (ドォーン) slammed into an upper corner, and a strip of small reaction panels beneath. Installed for Kaido’s Wano entrance (Ch. 921) and run across the Kaido looming-descent, Fujitora descending-mass and Elbaf demon-loom lineages, it now lands on the arrival of the saga’s final antagonist — Imu’s transit-column descending onto Aurust Castle.
The vehicle here is closest to the Fujitora sibling: not a looming humanoid/dragon body but a descending dark column (Imu’s magic-circle transit, Abyss Pentagram glyph-family) crashing straight down out of the sky — the same “overwhelming mass falls from above” grammar, keyed to the highest stakes yet.

Why this matters — the structural lesson
Oda reserves the DOOM-splash for the arrival of an overwhelming, page-owning threat, and the vehicle escalates with the stakes (Kaido dragon → Kaido hybrid over Big Mom → Fujitora’s sky-meteor → Elbaf’s own demonized guardians). At the apex he reaches for the same skeleton for Imu’s on-page descent — the reveal fans have waited on since the Empty Throne silhouette — and stages it on Elbaf, the very island where the grammar was last keyed (1150) to the covenant-demons Imu created. The DOOM-splash marks Imu as the final Kaido-tier-and-beyond arrival.
The deliberate inversion two pages on: after the descent-column DOOM-splash promises a looming colossus, Ch. 1179 p. 17 subverts it — Imu is revealed not as a page-filling monster but as a small, still figure perched atop the castle rooftop at the far end of a receding ridge. The villain-arrival grammar delivers the scale of the threat; the reveal then withholds the body, making the tiny perched sovereign read as more ominous than any colossus. When the DOOM-splash fires but the figure it heralds is small and still, read the smallness as the point — the threat is the will, not the size.
