Chapter 1105: The Height of Folly

Summary

As the Marines evacuate to their ships and ready the bombardment, St. Saturn orders the Buster Call to level Egghead — to “set the state of scientific progress back 100 years” — while a captive, pleading Vegapunk (Stella) begs Kizaru and Saturn to call it off “for the sake of humanity.” Saturn coldly reveals that he has also sent battleships to hunt down a ship that escaped the island the day before, because someone aboard knew about the Void Century, and that he wants no survivors — framing it as Vegapunk’s own crime, “just as they did at Ohara.” The Straw Hats and Vegapunk satellites scramble their escape (Edison improvises moving the Sunny across an ice-cloud runway after Kizaru wrecked the Vegaforce-1; Brook helps Lilith; Sanji and Nami coordinate by Den Den Mushi; Robin lies injured). The cannons open fire and the future city begins to fall. Bonney’s escape capsule (the “Vacuum Rocket”) is cut down by a bespectacled swordsman; as she plummets toward a Kuma-faced Pacifista, the awful irony lands — the Navy may have a Pacifista in her father’s form kill her. Luffy lies depleted while Marines move to capture “one of the Four Emperors.” In the closing pages, the pursuit fleet sent after the escaped ship reports total failure — the battleships destroyed, the survivors warning that the ship’s defenders “went to Egghead.” Saturn brands it all “the height of folly.”

• The secret second strike: Saturn ordered battleships to destroy a ship that escaped Egghead “yesterday” because someone aboard “knew something about the Void Century,” intending no survivors — explicitly modeled on Ohara, and blamed on Vegapunk’s “lust for knowledge” (p. 4).
• The Kuma-clone irony made explicit: narration spells out the dread that the Navy might order a Pacifista in Kuma’s form to shoot Bonney — “the daughter he gave his life to save… killed by his own clone” (pp. 12-13).
