Chapter 855: GLURRGLE!!!

Summary

In Sweet City, a bouncing intruder has punched a hole in the Chateau wall; Bobbin “the Disposer” — a Big Mom Pirates Fighter (Bishop), bounty 105.5 million — tells his men to stand down and goes to “dispose of the trouble,” noting they must still make an appearance at Mama’s tea party. Meanwhile, deep inside Whole Cake Chateau, Nami, Chopper, Carrot (Mink) and Pedro (steering captive Brûlée as a mirror-conduit) discover Big Mom fast asleep with Brook clutched in her arms — she won’t release “such a strange bone creature.” They build a skeleton decoy from a corpse at the execution grounds (seaweed for the afro) and, over three botched attempts (a sneeze, a roll-over, a swatted “fly”), finally pry the real Brook free — only for the half-waking Big Mom to see the living skeleton and shriek “GHOST!!!”, blasting the room with “Heavenly Fire” before flopping back to sleep mumbling “wedding cake.” Safely back in Mirro-World, Brook reveals the real prize: while trapped, he managed to make three rubbings of Big Mom’s Road Poneglyph from her treasure repository — a copy any Emperor would kill for. Outside Sweet City, Sanji runs through the rain searching for Luffy, who promised to wait for him; he finds a battlefield of downed soldiers and, at its center, a beaten, starving Luffy collapsed in the mud — stomach growling, GLURRGLE.

• The Straw Hats obtained a Road Poneglyph copy. Brook — infiltrating as a two-man team with Pedro — made three rubbings of Big Mom’s Road Poneglyph from her treasure repository, “something any of the other Emperors would kill to have,” past “one of the Sweet Generals” and the guards (pp. 14-16). Even her own family is rarely allowed into that vault.
• Big Mom is pathologically afraid of ghosts. Seeing a living skeleton, the Emperor screams “G-G-GHOST!!!” and unleashes a named blast, “Heavenly Fire!!!”, then rolls back to sleep (pp. 11-12). A conspicuous, unexplained terror in one of the Four Emperors.

• Luffy escaped and fought a battle, but is now starving. Big Mom’s forces report “it was a hell of a battle” and head out “to find and vanquish Straw Hat”; Sanji reads that Luffy and “the Cat Burglar” have reportedly been apprehended, then finds Luffy collapsed and starving (pp. 13, 17).
