Chapter 607: 30,000 Feet Under the Sea

Summary

Fleeing the eruption of a submarine volcano, the Straw Hats ride Surume the Kraken down a 30,000-foot trench toward Fish-Man Island while Captain Vander Decken’s ghost ship retreats in the same chaos. The temperature clash between lava and seawater spawns a vortex; Usopp’s Green Star: Sargasso stops a trench-wall avalanche, and Zoro is barred from cutting the falling boulders because at 25,000 feet the pressure would crush him. Reaching the seafloor, the crew finally beholds Fish-Man Island glowing inside a giant air-bubble — Sanji nearly bleeds out fantasizing about its mermaids. Before they can enter, the New Fish-Man Pirates, led on-scene by the pike-conger fish-man Hammond, surround Surume and demand the Straw Hats become their vassals, praising their Sabaody deeds (protecting Hatchan, striking a Celestial Dragon) as worthy of Fisher Tiger.
