Summary
Luffy charges the plaza screaming “They’re trying to execute Ace again!!” while Ivankov warns him the energy hormone “only tricks your body — it doesn’t fix any of your injuries.” Koby, steeling himself on his “battlefield” (“I have to fight like I want to kill him!”), is no obstacle; Luffy presses forward, only to be locked onto by a Pacifista that recognizes “Monkey D. Luffy” — and Hancock, a Warlord nominally on the Navy’s side, aborts her own attack to shield him, leaving the Marines bewildered and the Empress blushing when Luffy thanks her by name. Across the field the fake “Kumas” — mass-produced Pacifista replicas of Kuma — methodically dismantle Whitebeard’s officers: Kizaru catches “Phoenix” Marco off guard and the commander is clapped in Sea-Prism Stone cuffs, Jozu goes down, and the cry goes up that “all the squad leaders are getting taken out — the Whitebeard Pirates are doomed.” Whitebeard answers by tearing through the Pacifista himself — “I don’t need your help… I AM WHITEBEARD!!” — terrifying the Marines into calling him a monster. He frames his stand as a duty to the future: “I know exactly what it would mean if I were to die… that’s all the more reason to stay alive, until I’ve guided my sons toward a brighter future!! Right, Ace?” His division pirates rally — “We’re here to defend Pops’ pride!!” — and when a beam threatens, Luffy, rushing to “save you right now,” unleashes a burst of Conqueror’s Haki, recognized on-page as “the Haki of the Supreme King,” as Ace looks on in shock. The volume’s SBS page answers a fan’s question by naming all sixteen Whitebeard division commanders.
New reveals
- The “fake Kumas” assault. A swarm of Pacifista (replica-Kuma cyborgs) is fielded against the Whitebeard alliance; allies call them “the fake Kumas” and a Pacifista announces “Ally detected” upon scanning Hancock (pp. 4-5).
- Whitebeard’s commanders are systematically removed. Marco is caught off guard by Kizaru (“you sure regenerate a lot, ‘Phoenix’ Marco”) and restrained — “Sea Prism Stone!!” (p. 6); Jozu “is down too” (p. 7). “All the squad leaders are getting taken out!! …The Whitebeard Pirates are doomed.” (p. 7).
- “Phoenix” Marco. Kizaru’s taunt is the first on-page use of the “Phoenix” epithet for Marco and an explicit tell of his regeneration (“you sure regenerate a lot”) — a name-before-explained seed for his fruit (p. 6).
- Whitebeard alone routs the Pacifista. “You think they can kill me like this? …I don’t need your help.” → “I AM WHITEBEARD!!” — he destroys the fake Kumas himself, and the Marines recoil: “M-Monster!! …It’s the strongest man in the world.” (pp. 9-11).
- Whitebeard’s creed / death-awareness. “I know exactly… what it would mean… if I were to die!! …That’s all the more reason to stay alive… until I’ve guided my sons toward a brighter future!! Right, Ace?” (pp. 11-13).
- Hancock protects Luffy. The Pirate Empress aborts her attack to shield “Monkey D. Luffy” from a Pacifista; Marines gawk — “Isn’t that the Empress?! How do you two know each other?!” — and she blushes at his thanks: “He called me by name again!” (pp. 4-5).
- Koby’s battlefield resolve. “…or I’ll never change! This is my battlefield! I have to fight like I want to kill him!” — Koby commits to fighting in earnest, yet cannot stop Luffy (pp. 2-3).
- Luffy’s Conqueror’s Haki. Rushing to “save you right now,” Luffy unleashes a presence-burst named on-page “The Haki of the Supreme King!!” (pp. 13-16) — the second clear demonstration after Amazon Lily (ch. 0519).
- SBS: the 16 division commanders named. Answering “Semaru,” Oda lists the full Whitebeard-Pirates officer corps: Captain Edward Newgate; (1) Marco, (2) Ace, (3) Jozu, (4) Thatch, (5) Vista, (6) Blamenco, (7) Rakuyo, (8) Namule, (9) Blenheim, (10) Curiel, (11) Kingdew, (12) Haruta, (13) Atmos, (14) Speed Jil, (15) Fossa, (16) Izo (p. 16).

Notable panels
- Page 1 — Chapter title splash (B&W): “White Monster” — a decorative winter-scene illustration of two bundled-up figures in falling snow (a large long-nosed figure in a lettered jacket beside a smaller person). No cover-serial installment runs this chapter; the title riffs on the Marines calling Whitebeard a “monster.”
- Page 2 — Luffy charging (“They’re trying to execute Ace again!!”); Ivankov: “The energy hormone only tricks your body!! It doesn’t fix any of your injuries!!”; Luffy: “I’m never gonna collapse again!”
- Pages 2-3 — Koby’s resolve (“This is my battlefield! I have to fight like I want to kill him!”); clash of Luffy’s “Gum-Gum…” and a “Shave!!” intercept.
- Page 4 — A Pacifista locks on: “Monkey D. Luffy.” “I forgot how dangerous they were!!” Luffy “WHOA!!”; “Attack aborted!” — “Boa Hancock, of the Seven Warlords.”
- Page 5 — Marines: “How do you two know each other?!”; Luffy: “Thanks, Hancock!” → “BLUSH” — “He called me by name again!”; a Pacifista: “Move aside, Boa Hancock.” / “The fake Kumas!!” / “Ally detected.”
- Page 6 — Kizaru downs Marco: “But you sure regenerate a lot, ‘Phoenix’ Marco.” → “CH-TAK!!” → “Commander Marco!!” “ZAP” “AGH!!” → “Sea Prism Stone!!”
- Page 7 — “Commander Jozu is down too!!” “KRASH!!” / “All the squad leaders are getting taken out!! …The Whitebeard Pirates are doomed.”

- Page 16 — SBS Question Corner (Vol. 58): Oda answers “Semaru” by naming all 16 Whitebeard-Pirates division commanders (Marco, Ace, Jozu, Thatch, Vista, Blamenco, Rakuyo, Namule, Blenheim, Curiel, Kingdew, Haruta, Atmos, Speed Jil, Fossa, Izo) under Captain Edward Newgate. (

Open questions raised
- With Marco cuffed in Sea-Prism Stone and Jozu down, can a failing Whitebeard hold the line alone?
- Who is Luffy rushing to “save,” and how far does this Conqueror’s-Haki burst reach?
- How many fake Kumas (Pacifista) has Vegapunk mass-produced for the war?
- Why is the Pirate Empress openly breaking ranks with the Navy to protect Luffy — and will the Marines act on it?
