Chapter 314: Combat!!
This chapter's foreshadowing ledger — what it plants, what it pays off, and what debuts here. Locked seeds pay off beyond your ⚓ progress; tap one to reveal it anyway.
- Firsts
- Round 3 of the Davy Back Fight (Combat) is fought aboard Foxy's own ship, the Sexy Foxy — both decks declared the battlefield, with the loser being the man who falls outside the 100-meter ring; no time limit
- Usopp is Luffy's cornerman; before the bell Usopp re-styles Luffy with a giant 'Afro' wig that is treated as a fighting-spirit boost ('this hairstyle summons a man's wild instincts'), and Luffy keeps the afro through the round
- Foxy's slow-beam (the 'Slow-Slow Beam') can be aimed in a tight window directly in front of his glove — he slows ONLY the small slice of space a fist passes through, neutralizing Luffy's punches at the moment of impact while staying mobile himself
- A target hit by the slow-beam keeps its momentum but is rendered slow-motion for ~30 seconds; Foxy exploits this to deliver a free '30-second beating' once Luffy is slowed
- Foxy can ride/redirect his own cannonballs by slowing them, and he can slow Luffy's stretched limbs mid-flight ('I should be careful not to stretch too much')
- Foxy rigs the duel: he pre-slowed a barrage of cannonballs and his collectible-pin-shaped 'Foxy Face Bombs' so that all of them converge on Luffy at the 30-second mark for a guaranteed simultaneous detonation ('Bingo! Every bomb was a direct hit')
- Foxy reinforced his boxing gloves so his own punches do real damage despite his slight build ('I reinforced my gloves')

Summary
Round 3 of the Davy Back Fight — Combat — is fought across the decks of Foxy’s own ship, the Sexy Foxy, with the whole vessel declared the battlefield and no time limit; the loser is whoever falls outside the 100-meter ring. In the locker-room before the bell, Usopp (Luffy’s “cornerman”) dresses Luffy in a giant Afro wig, treated by both fighters as a fighting-spirit boost (“this hairstyle summons a man’s wild instincts… it even changes the way you talk!”), and Luffy keeps the afro the whole round. The bell rings (KLANG!!). Luffy opens with Gum-Gum Pistol, but Foxy fires his slow-beam (the “Slow-Slow Beam!!”) into the narrow slice of space right in front of his own glove — slowing only the spot Luffy’s fist passes through, so the punch crawls harmlessly while Foxy stays fast. Foxy explains he “only slowed the space right in front of your glove,” then taunts Luffy by slowing his stretched arm (“I guess you just look strong!”). Luffy unleashes Gum-Gum Rush (a Gatling barrage), but Foxy slow-beams the volley and stands inside it un-flinching — “even his reactions are slow… he’s not even flinching!!” — counting “three… two… one…” until the slowed punches land with no force, then delivers a brutal free “30-second beating” while Luffy is locked in slow-motion (the beam wears off after ~30 seconds). Foxy escalates the rigging: he rides his own slowed cannonballs, slow-beams Luffy’s limbs so he “shouldn’t stretch too much,” and reveals his real trap — he has pre-slowed a barrage of cannonballs and his collectible-pin-shaped “Foxy Face Bombs” (which are real bombs he bought) so that, after first softening Luffy up with punches, every projectile converges on Luffy simultaneously at the 30-second mark. The chapter ends with the rigged barrage landing all at once — KA-BLAMM!! — “Bingo! Every bomb was a direct hit!!” — an apparent overwhelming victory for Foxy, with the Straw Hat side (Nami, Robin, Sanji, Zoro, Chopper) crying out for Luffy.
New reveals
- Round 3 (Combat) is fought across the decks of the Sexy Foxy — both decks (“above deck and below deck”) are the battlefield, “no time limit,” lose by being knocked outside the 100-meter ring (pp. 5–7). Confirms the field set last chapter (“the stage this round just happens to be our own ship”).
- Usopp is Luffy’s cornerman and re-styles Luffy with a giant Afro wig as a fighting boost — “this hairstyle summons a man’s wild instincts… it even changes the way you talk!” Luffy fights the whole round in the afro (pp. 2–4).
- The slow-beam can be aimed in a tight window directly in front of Foxy’s glove — Foxy slows only the slice of space a fist passes through, so Luffy’s punch is rendered slow-motion at the moment of impact while Foxy himself stays fast and mobile (“I only slowed down the space right in front of your glove,” pp. 8–9).
- A slow-beamed target keeps its momentum but moves in slow-motion for ~30 seconds; Foxy exploits the window to deliver a free “30-second beating” to a helpless Luffy (pp. 11–13).
- Foxy can ride / redirect his own cannonballs by slow-beaming them (pp. 15–16), and he can slow Luffy’s stretched limbs mid-flight, forcing Luffy to warn himself “I should be careful not to stretch too much” (p. 14).
- Foxy’s rigged finisher: he pre-slows a barrage of cannonballs and his collectible-pin-shaped “Foxy Face Bombs” (which he confirms are genuine purchased bombs) so that, timed to the 30-second beam decay, every projectile converges on Luffy at the same instant — a guaranteed simultaneous detonation (“the face bombs are now at about… 30 seconds… Bingo! Every bomb was a direct hit!!”, pp. 16–19).
- Foxy reinforced his boxing gloves so his slight frame’s punches do real damage (“I reinforced… my gloves,” p. 18).
- The slow-beam is referred to by several attack-names this chapter: the “Slow-Slow Beam” (basic projection, pp. 8, 11, 14) and the “Slow-Slow Foxy Face Bomb” (the slowed-bomb gambit, p. 16). (The underlying Devil Fruit — the Noro Noro no Mi, named @0309 — is NOT re-named on these pages; only its beam/attacks are spoken.)

- p. 18 — Reveal: the “collectible pins” are real bombs (“Bombs?! Well, that’s just dangerous!! / Of course. They’re bombs. / They’re bigger than the one I bought”); “I’m the real Foxy!!”; “I reinforced… my gloves.”
- p. 19 — The countdown completes: “the face bombs are now at about… 30 seconds…” → KA-BLAMM!! — “Bingo!! Every bomb was a direct hit!! / Is this an overwhelming victory for our boss?!” Cliffhanger on Luffy buried in the blast.
- p. 20 — Bonus “Coloring Page” — uncolored line-art splash (Nami and others on a windswept island scene, page no. 186). A reader coloring activity, not a foreshadowing color spread (logs as a Notable panel only).
Open questions raised
- How does Luffy survive / recover from the rigged simultaneous bomb-and-cannonball barrage? (The round ends on an apparent total defeat — comeback forward.)
- Does the slow-beam have a hard cooldown or aiming limit Luffy can exploit? (Foxy must aim and project it; he stays mobile — exploitable gap implied.)
- Will Luffy’s win (per the directional arc) cost Foxy a crew member or his flag under the irreversible Round-3 rule? (Stake from @0313: a member won in the final match can never be reclaimed.)
- Is the “Afro = stronger” gag purely comedic, or does it recur as a Luffy/Usopp prop? (p. 3 prop-tell.)
