Summary
On the strange, elongated prairie island where the crew has landed, the Straw Hats meet Tonjit, an old nomad who has been stuck atop the world’s tallest bamboo stilts for ten years, unable to climb down — and who was left behind when his entire village migrated away. Tonjit explains the island’s nature: it is called Long Ring Long Land, a single landmass that the sea divides into ten ring-arranged islands, across which his nomadic tribe migrates once every three years when a low-tide “window” briefly opens. He has been waiting ten years (and faces twenty more) for the circuit to bring his village back. After bonding with the crew over aged “ten-year cheese” (which gives Luffy food poisoning) and his beloved horse Sherry, the reunion is interrupted by the arrival of the Foxy Pirates — captain “Foxy the Silver Fox” (bounty 24 million berries) and his warriors Porche and Hamburg, who shoot Sherry. Foxy, having investigated the Straw Hats’ bounties, formally challenges them to a three-coin Davy Back Fight under orthodox rules — a pirate game in which the loser of each contest must hand over a crew member. Luffy, not understanding the stakes, eagerly accepts a “match” — to Nami and Chopper’s horror (“We’ll lose our companions!!”). The chapter ends on the discovery that the Going Merry has drifted off the island, carrying Robin, Sanji, and Usopp away. The cover serial “Ace’s Great Search for Blackbeard” concludes: Ace loses Blackbeard’s trail but vows to keep hunting him “in the name of pirates.”
New reveals
- New arc / location: the crew has reached Long Ring Long Land (named p. 8) — a single landmass “divided by the sea into ten islands,” arranged in a ring (pp. 8–9).
- Migration mechanic: the island’s nomadic tribe migrates between the ten islands “once every three years” when a low-tide window reveals their true ring-shaped connection — open “only for a few hours” (pp. 8–9). To make a full circuit back to one island takes ~20+ years (p. 9).
- Tonjit debuts (p. 3, captioned “Tonjit — Nomad”): an old nomad stranded for ten years atop the world’s tallest bamboo stilts. His village migrated without him; the crew accidentally knocked him off the stilts by breaking the bamboo (pp. 2–4).
- Foxy Pirates debut (pp. 11–13): captain Foxy “the Silver Fox” (caption p. 11: “Foxy Pirates Captain, Bounty: 24 Million Berries”); Porche (caption p. 11: “Foxy Pirates Warrior”); Hamburg (caption p. 12: “Foxy Pirates Warrior”). Foxy: “My name is Foxy!! I’m a man who gets everything he wants!!” (p. 13).
- The Foxy Pirates have investigated the Straw Hats — Porche recites Zolo’s 60M and Luffy’s 100M bounties (p. 13).
- Davy Back Fight named (p. 14): Foxy challenges the Straw Hats “to a three-coin Davy Back Fight run by orthodox rules!!” The stakes are crew members — Nami/Chopper: “We’ll lose our companions!!” (p. 14).
- Going Merry has drifted away with Robin, Sanji, and Usopp still aboard (p. 14, cliffhanger).
- Sherry, Tonjit’s horse, is introduced (p. 10) and shot by the Foxy Pirates (p. 10, “BLAM!!”).
- Cover-serial finale: “Ace’s Great Search for Blackbeard, FINAL VOLUME: ‘In the Name of Pirates’” (p. 1).

- p. 1 — Title splash “FOXY THE SILVER FOX” over the final cover-serial panel: Ace seated cross-legged in front of his Whitebeard-crest jolly roger, arms crossed. Caption: “Ace’s Great Search for Blackbeard, FINAL VOLUME: ‘In the Name of Pirates.’”
- p. 2 — The crew accidentally knocked an old man off his stilts (“WELL, HE APPEARED WHEN WE BROKE THE BAMBOO”). The old man recognizes… no one (“Of course I remember you! It’s been ages.”) — comedic confusion. “DOOOM!!”
- p. 3 — The nomad introduces himself; caption box: “TONJIT — NOMAD.” “It was you fellas who pushed me off of my stilts.”
- p. 4 — Tonjit was stuck atop the world’s tallest bamboo stilts for ten whole years because the bamboo kept growing and he was too scared to climb down.
- pp. 5–8 — Tonjit explains the island: everything is stretched out (“daaaachshund”); the village vanished because the tribe is nomadic.
- p. 8 — “This island is called Long Ring Long Land… normally divided by the sea into ten islands… but it’s actually shaped like a long ring.” Migration window opens “once every three years.”
- p. 9 — Diagram of the ten-island ring; “A circuit back to this island takes about twenty more years.” Introduces a “hoooorse” as the only way to cross.

- p. 14 — “We, the Foxy Pirates, challenge you… to a three-coin Davy Back Fight run by orthodox rules!!” Luffy: “If you want a match, I’ll take you on!!” Nami/Chopper: “Hey, Luffy!!! You can’t!! Not that game!! We’ll lose our companions!!” Cliffhanger: the Going Merry “is gone!” with Robin, Sanji, Usopp aboard. “TO BE CONTINUED IN ONE PIECE, VOL. 33!”
- p. 15 — Non-story bonus page: a blank “Time Table” (weekly calendar grid) decorated with chibi Straw Hats. Not a color spread, not narrative content.
Open questions raised
- What is a Davy Back Fight, exactly, and what are its three contests? (Named here; rules unfold next chapters — Davy Back Fight.)
- What is Foxy’s Devil Fruit / why is he confident at only 24M bounty? (His “Silver Fox” trickster framing hints at a power, not yet shown.)
- Where has the Going Merry drifted, and will Robin, Sanji, and Usopp be safe? (Cliffhanger, p. 14.)
- Will Tonjit ever reunite with his nomadic village / the migration window? (Tonjit.)
