Chapter 1001: Battle of Monsters on Onigashima

Summary

The rooftop fight opens with Kaido reeling — Luffy’s last punch genuinely damaged him (“His punch…?!”), and the Worst-Generation alliance watching from the rubble realizes the stakes have shifted: Killer laughs that “then we have a chance of winning,” while Kid (“you can hurt Kaido with physical blows!”) and Zoro recognize the blow as the advanced Haki Luffy learned from “the old man in Wano” (Hyogoro). Kaido, exhilarated, demands to know “how high will your ceiling go?!” and swings his club in the named attack “Bagua.” Big Mom joins in, frustrated that her future-reading Observation Haki can’t track Luffy (“It’s so fast!!”), unleashing Prometheus fire — which Zoro cuts apart with Kin’emon’s “Foxfire Style: Flame-Rend,” quipping “I stole it.” Law (Chambres) and Kid bicker over who’s whose henchman even as they dodge Big Mom’s “Heavenly Bon-bons,” turning it into a contest of “whoever reacts first is the loser.” Killer — addressed as the assassin “Hitokiri Kamazo” — laughs his eerie laugh and reminds Zoro that in their earlier duel he’d held back his Punishers; the two trade named slashes (Purgatory Oni Giri / Beheading Claws). Kaido and Big Mom declare it would “almost be a shame to kill you,” but once the alliance is dead they’ll seize all their manpower, treasure, and poneglyphs — Big Mom giddy at the prospect — and frame the whole brawl as a race: “Whoever wins gets that much closer… to King of the Pirates!!!” Zoro charges back in.
