The question

Who are the Wano phantoms — the Robin-Hood thief Denjiro and the scythe-assassin Killer — and is the Kozuki crest they/rumor invoke a true sign of the clan’s return?

The Flower Capital is haunted by two anonymous figures. Ushimitsu Kozo robs the rich for the poor and leaves a reverse crescent moon — the Kozuki crest — sparking open hope that the fallen clan has returned. Hitokiri Kamazo, a scythe-wielding assassin, strikes elsewhere in the capital. Both identities are deliberately withheld. The chapter pointedly raises “Has the Kozuki clan returned?!!” as the populace’s rallying question against Orochi’s regime.

Leading theories

Theory A — the phantoms herald the Kozuki resurgence

Resolution

Resolved @ Ch. 942 — both phantoms are unmasked and the Kozuki crest is exposed as a decoy: the thief Ushimitsu Kozo was Yasuie, and the scythe-assassin was one of Orochi’s agents.

  • The scythe-assassin Hitokiri Kamazo is exposed as an assassin of Orochi posing as a common criminal, sent to kill the child Toko for naming the shogun without his title (Ch. 937).
  • The Robin-Hood thief Ushimitsu Kozo is unmasked as Tonoyasu — Shimotsuki Yasuie, former Daimyo of Hakumai and an Oden-era Kozuki ally (Ch. 941, Ch. 942).
  • By Yasuie’s own confession, the reverse-crescent-moon Kozuki crest was a decoy he invented ~20 years ago “as just a little prank” — not proof of the clan’s literal return (Ch. 942).
  • Orochi’s regime had already turned the crest into a rebel marker, dragging any citizen bearing it to Rasetsu Town’s cells (Ch. 939).
