Profile

The geographic threshold between the East Blue and the Grand Line. Crowded European-style city with a large plaza, arched gates labeled ROGUETOWN — TOWN OF THE BEGINNING AND THE END, clock tower in the skyline. The birth-and-execution location of Gold Roger — Roger’s life-arc is structurally symmetric (born and died at the same point).

Etymology

• VIZ: Roguetown (the VIZ rendering on the on-page arched-gate sign).
• JP: ローグタウン (Rōgutaun) — rōgu = English log / rogue. Both readings are operative: log-town (end of Roger’s voyage, end of the Log Pose calibration) and rogue-town (pirate-friendly settlement on the verge of the Grand Line).
• Vault convention: Loguetown (community standard; the log etymology is the load-bearing one given Roger’s voyage-context).

Key chapters

• Ch. 96 — first on-page named appearance. Page 11 — Nami narrates the city’s significance from the bow; page 12 — arrival splash. Crew splits up for shopping/recon. Zoro encounters revenge-thugs from his bounty-hunter-era career and is saved by Tashigi (debut).
• Ch. 97 — Zoro at Matsu’s Sword Shop (acquires Sandai Kitetsu via luck-vs-curse bet, Wado named); Luffy visits the execution scaffold; Roguetown Naval Base introduced; Smoker’s name + partial-silhouette debut; Tashigi’s rank (Sergeant) and career-doctrine canonized.
• Ch. 98 — Special Execution Scaffold canonized as the Roger-execution-site, under WG jurisdiction (page 5). Luffy climbs the scaffold (page 4) and monologues ‘So this is what the King of the Pirates saw… just before he died!!!’ Alvida and Buggy reveal their alliance on-scaffold; Buggy declares Luffy’s public execution ‘in the same spot as the Pirate King’ (page 13). Smoker full debut as ‘White Chase’ Smoker, Captain, Navy Headquarters (pages 14-15) with smoke-emission DF visual pre-load. • Ch. 100 — East-Blue saga close at the chapter-100 milestone. Loguetown engulfed in a humongous storm triggered by Dragon’s wind-blast. The Roger execution scaffold (the Ch. 1 scaffold) is where Luffy is bound and saved by Dragon. The town is the site of: (a) Smoker’s first on-page combat appearance (Plume-Plume Fruit Logia debut; Prison Bullet anti-DF weapon canonized; Buggy Pirates captured in one sweep); (b) Tashigi’s named debut (Master Chief Tashigi, Wado Ichimonji field-named, duel with Zoro); (c) Buggy + Alvida operating the Chop-Chop Car flight, captured by Smoker, escape via storm-cover; (d) Dragon’s silhouette-debut at the Roger scaffold (Smoker names him; another-man’s-voyage doctrine articulated; wind-blast destroys the scaffold). The Going Merry departs Loguetown’s harbor toward the Grand Line at the chapter’s close, with the lighthouse-as-guiding-light landmark visible. End of the East-Blue saga. Execution Plaza (canonized Ch. 99)

• Bell 108 — bell signpost in the plaza, first numerical canonization of the Loguetown bell (page 3). 108 is the Buddhist sacred number (108 worldly desires, 108 strokes of the New-Year bell).
• Execution Platform — wooden/stone scaffold at plaza center, same architectural design as the Ch. 1 Roger-execution flashback.
• Destroyed by direct lightning strike in Ch. 99 page 15 — KRAK!!!! SSS… PLP PLP PLP… KSHHHH!!! (CRASH!!)
• Architecturally: european-style buildings, clock-tower in background, large open plaza for public gatherings.
• Historical: Gold Roger was executed here 22 years before the chapter’s present (Smoker, page 18).
• Present: Luffy delivers his first public King of the Pirates declaration here; lightning saves him from execution at the same spot.

Additional Loguetown features (Ch. 97)

Ch. 97 establishes additional Loguetown features: (a) the Matsu Sword Shop (a 200-year-business weapons-merchant), (b) the fancy-clothing district (storefronts MADOY, VILLA, MEDICI, OTTINO visible in the page-2 / page-16 boutique sequences), (c) the Roguetown Naval Base with main gate signpost, and (d) the Smoker-took-over-the-town civilian framing — Smoker’s installation as base CO has reshaped Loguetown’s pirate-economy (Matsu, page 11: “This shop used to be filled with men who wanted to sail the Grand Line. Then that monster took over this town. And what happened? The customers stopped coming.”). The chapter installs Loguetown as a Marine-suppressed pirate-staging-port — the last-stop-before-Grand-Line function persists, but under Smoker’s chilling effect.
