A tall stone scaffold in the central plaza of Loguetown, East Blue. The platform is the one where Gold Roger was publicly executed at the start of the series — the Ch. 1 page 1 composition (Roger on the scaffold, two executioners flanking, vast crowd below) is set here. The scaffold is canonized in Ch. 98 page 5 as the Special Execution Scaffold… under the jurisdiction of the World Government — establishing the WG’s ownership of public-execution-infrastructure as a structural feature of the world.
The scaffold is the chapter’s central visual in Ch. 98:
- Luffy ascends and looks out (page 4): ‘So this is what the King of the Pirates saw… just before he died!!!’
- Alvida embraces Luffy from behind on the platform (page 5).
- Buggy leaps onto the platform with Cabaji and declares Luffy’s public execution (page 13): ‘You’re going to die in the same spot as the Pirate King!!!’
The chapter stages a structural mirror of Ch. 1 page 1 — Luffy in Roger’s pose, Buggy in the Marine-executioner role, the same scaffold. Forward-pre-load: the Luffy-survives-the-scaffold beat (Ch. 100, forward-canon) inverts the Ch. 1 page 1 grammar.
Etymology
The Special Execution Scaffold (tokubetsu shikei-dai / 特別処刑台) — the special designation marks this as a named, locked-jurisdiction execution-platform, not a generic gallows. The WG-jurisdiction is the special element. Forward-pattern: every later WG-controlled execution-platform (Marineford execution platform Ch. 580+, Mary Geoise scaffold pre-Reverie) is downstream of this seed.
