Chapter 662: Warlord Law vs. Vice Admiral Smoker

Summary

On the ice side of Punk Hazard, Warlord Trafalgar Law has cut Vice Admiral Smoker and Tashigi in two with his Room ability. Smoker, still alive, demands Law “do the job properly and kill me,” and Law answers that “the weak do not have the right to choose how they die.” When the G-5 Marines open fire, Law switches their bullets with the surrounding snow and turns their own shots back on them; his slashes carve through a ship-sculpture and leave the Marines convinced he is invincible. Smoker recovers in smoke form and counterattacks with his jitte, which Law notes carries “an unpleasant energy” — its sea-prism-stone tip. Meanwhile, on the icy plains, Luffy and Brook ride the bound, sullen crocodile-centaur Brownbeard (“Crocotaur”), hurrying to rescue their abducted crewmates and the captive children. Inside the lab, the Master’s subordinates panic that Law — who was only meant to drive the Navy away — is instead waging a battle that has exposed the island; even killing Smoker now won’t stop the Navy from realizing “something’s wrong here.” The bird-woman harpy Monet, reporting by Den Den Mushi, reveals the intruders wiped out Brownbeard’s centaur patrol and “Vegapunk’s dragon,” and — seeing the “Straw Hat Crew: Back in Business” newspaper — recognizes that the pirates they abducted are the Straw Hat Pirates. Back at the duel, the Marines reel from Law’s body-part swaps (“your right hand’s my left foot!”), and Smoker — who “make[s] it a rule never to trust” Warlords — presses Law on who is “behind it” and what he is plotting. Law deflects, calls “Scalpel!”, and carves out Smoker’s still-beating heart, sealing it in a cube as the Vice Admiral collapses. As the Marines spot a battleship and a newcomer, Luffy arrives — the two recognize each other (“Straw hat…” / “Oh, you’re—!!”), and the chapter closes on a full-page silhouette of Trafalgar Law. • Law was only supposed to drive the Navy away, not fight it. The Master’s men: “What in the world was Law thinking?! He was only supposed to drive them away!!” His battle with Smoker has compromised the island — “even if we kill Smoker now, the Navy will know something’s wrong here!!! … Now they’ll be watching this island!!!” (p. 11).
