- Makino articulates the chapter's thesis — Garp is hurting more than anyone (Ace and Luffy were within his reach at the war yet he couldn't save them) and 'Luffy is the one hurting most.'
- Garp confirms to the village that Luffy is not dead — 'they didn't find his body... he fled in a submarine' — and pledges he'll be on Luffy's side no matter what kind of pirate he becomes.
- Shanks personally arranged and stands watch over the graves of Whitebeard ('EDWARD-NEWGATE') and Ace ('PORTGAS-D-ACE') at an unnamed island in the New World; Marco thanks him, and Shanks notes 'even Sengoku felt that way — enemy or not, Whitebeard commanded respect.'
- Shanks likens Whitebeard's refusal to run or cry to 'exactly what Captain Roger would do' — a Roger-era characterization from a man who sailed under him.
- On Amazon Lily (the Calm Belt), Jinbei stays with the grief-rampaging Luffy and physically beats him down to make him face that Ace is gone forever and that he must fight for what he still has.
- FLASHBACK reveal: a dying/imprisoned Ace explicitly charged Jinbei to 'TAKE CARE OF HIM, OKAY?' — Jinbei's vigil over Luffy is the fulfillment of Ace's request.
- Luffy breaks through his despair by naming his whole crew and declaring 'I HAVE MY CREW!! ...I want to see them!!' — Jinbei observes he is no longer 'the same Luffy who couldn't do anything but follow me around.'

Summary
Two weeks after the Paramount War, the world processes its grief on three fronts. At Windmill Village (Kingdom of Goa, East Blue), Vice-Admiral Garp returns from sinking a pirate ship and is set upon by Curly Dadan, who blames him for failing to save Ace; Garp absorbs the beating without resistance, and Makino tells the village that Garp — and Luffy most of all — is hurting more than anyone. Garp reveals Luffy survived (‘he fled in a submarine’) and pledges to back his grandson no matter what. Far away in the New World, Shanks keeps vigil at the graves of Whitebeard and Ace; Marco thanks him, and the two reflect that Whitebeard, like Roger, would never run or weep. On Amazon Lily, Jinbei refuses to let the rampaging, self-loathing Luffy keep hurting himself — he fights him down, forcing him to accept that what’s gone is gone, and to remember what remains. Luffy finally names his eight crewmates one by one, screams ‘I HAVE MY CREW!! I want to see them!!’, and weeps — fulfilling, unknowingly, Ace’s dying request that Jinbei look after his little brother.

Open questions raised
- Where exactly is the New World island where Shanks buried Whitebeard and Ace, and why did he take personal custody of the bodies?
- Now that Luffy resolves to reunite with his crew, how does he intend to reach Sabaody / regroup?
