Summary

A new arc opens. Having left Skypiea (the chapter begins with the Going Merry splashing back down toward the sea), the Straw Hats sail toward the next island and are first menaced by a wall of water that turns out to be a “Sea Monkey prank” (pp. 1–5). Through the fog, both the Merry’s lookouts and a derelict ship spot each other; the other vessel flies no flag and carries no sail, its crew is sparse and listless, and Chopper can “barely detect any life from them at all” (pp. 2–7) — Luffy’s crew debates whether the demoralized ship is even a real pirate crew, with Robin insisting they “were missing just that special spark that all pirates have.” The crew makes landfall on a bizarre island where everything is elongated — long-legged “horse-bear” and dog creatures, towering thin trees, and giant skyscraper-tall bamboo (pp. 8–12). They find an empty yurt-style house and a saddled long-necked white horse named “Sherry” (pp. 10–11), implying residents. Luffy, attacked by whipping bamboo, smashes it — triggering a hidden cannon trap that erupts (“KABOOM!!!”) from a structure on the island (pp. 12–14). The “spirit” of the bamboo turns out to be a barrage; the crew takes cover. Out at sea their own ship is chained/blocked in by the derelict crew, who at last reveal themselves: a fox/cat-skull jolly-roger ship bursts up bearing the name “FOXY,” and three shadowed figures declare “We are the Foxy Pirates… Don’t be hasty. What we want… is a duel!” (pp. 14–15). Page 16 is the SBS “Question Corner” closer.
