Firsts
  • her father Cobra's
  • **Chaka's *AS YOU WISH* royal-deference beat to Princess Vivi** (p. 3). The acting Royal Guard commander obeys an order that overrides the kingdom's deepest tradition — first on-page Chaka-recognizes-Vivi-as-monarch-substitute moment. Pre-loads Chaka's forward-canon defense-of-Alubarna role and his Inu-Inu-Model-Jackal Zoan combat tier. Cross-reference his prior debut Ch. 0173.
  • **Sanji vs Mr. 2 Bon Clay one-on-one duel begins in earnest in the Alubarna streets** (pp. 3-19). The chapter is one continuous Sanji vs Bon Clay fight at the East Gate plaza — first on-page Officer-Agent-tier Strawhat-on-Officer single-combat resolution in the Alabasta arc. The Strawhats' split-the-Baroque-Works-officers strategy (Karoo-duck-decoy disguised as Vivi) is operationally executing in the background; this chapter is the Sanji-half of the resolution.
  • **Bon Clay's martial art is named: *OH COME MY WAY KARATE*** (multiple pages, esp. pp. 9, 11). Bon Clay declares his fighting-style *'OH COME MY WAY KARATE!!'*. The chapter title canonizes the name. **First on-page Bon-Clay-fighting-style-named-as-a-discipline** — *Oh Come My Way* (the okama-道 *way of the okama* gloss Bon Clay self-codes by, see Ch. 0154) is now also the formal name of his karate system. The two-register coding (*lifestyle* + *karate-style*) is consolidated under one banner.
  • **LOAD-BEARING — Mane Mane no Mi mechanic-flaw identified by Sanji: the user can only access his trained-form (Oh Come My Way Karate) when in his *original* body, and must touch his own face with his left hand to revert** (pp. 10-11). Sanji (smoking, leaning, calm): *'I've found the flaw in your power.'* / *'You can't use your Oh Come My Way Karate when you're in Nami's form.'* / *'I admit that I can't bring myself to attack you then... but there's a moment when you're vulnerable — just before you attack, you always turn back into yourself... by touching your face with your left hand!'*. **First on-page Strawhat-side tactical read of the Mane Mane no Mi's mechanic-flaw.** The Ch. 0156-0157 left-hand-revert mechanic + Ch. 0157 X-mark fellowship-sign install were the *mechanic-known* tier; this chapter is the **first on-page combat-exploit of the mechanic**. Pays off the entire Ch. 0156-0157 Bon-Clay-fruit-knowledge install pattern.
  • **Bon Clay confirms the mechanic-limitation publicly** (p. 12). *'THAT'S RIGHT!! I CAN ONLY USE MY OH COME MY WAY KARATE WHEN I'M IN THE FORM I TRAINED IN!! BUT SO WHAT?! YOU'RE TOO BEATEN UP TO DO ANYTHING NOW!!'* — first on-page Devil-Fruit-user-confirms-his-own-limitation beat at the Mane Mane no Mi specifically.
  • **LOAD-BEARING — Sanji's chivalry-toward-women doctrine is operationalized as a *combat vulnerability* against Bon Clay's Nami-impersonation** (pp. 4-6). Bon Clay attacks in Nami-form: *'BWA HA HA HA!! WHERE'S YOUR BRAVADO NOW, TOUGH GUY?!'* / *'DO YOU EVEN HAVE THE STRENGTH TO STAND UP, MR. TOP-FLIGHT SEA COOK?'* Sanji (refusing to attack Nami's face): *'YOU SWAN!! YOU'RE NOT SO...'* / *'NO MATTER HOW MUCH YOU LOOK LIKE NAMI YOU'RE STILL A SWAN ON THE INSIDE!! I'M NOT BEATEN YET!!'* but *'DARN IT!! SHE'S SO CUTE!! ...HOT!!'* / *'I FEEL LIKE TAKING SOME OF MY CLOTHES OFF.'* — Sanji's love-comedy register triggers on Nami-Bon-Clay; **first on-page operationalization of Sanji's chivalry-toward-women as a combat-disadvantage at the boss-fight tier**. Pre-loads forward-canon *Sanji-cannot-hit-a-woman* doctrinal rigidity (Kalifa, Viola, Black Maria, even into Wano).
  • Bon Clay Swan Arabesque Named Technique Debut
  • **Bon Clay's *PRIMA BALLERINA* — first on-page Mr-2-rides-his-own-swan-flock mount-technique** (p. 12). Bon Clay summons his swan-henchmen (the same swans last seen Ch. 0160) and rides them as a chimera-mount; the *SWAN BOMBARDIER* (p. 13) chains their long necks as projectile beak-strikes (*'MY SWAN SLIPPERS HAVE LIMBER NECKS... AND BEAKS OF STEEL!!'*, p. 14). **First on-page Mr-2-swan-flock-as-combat-vehicle** — pre-loads the swan-iconography as an integrated weapon-system rather than a costume motif.
  • **Sanji takes Bon Clay's *WINTER WONDERLAND JETE* head-on, fakes critical injury, then counters with *BASSES CÔTE BLAST*** (pp. 17-19). After Bon Clay lands what looks like a finishing flying-kick (*SHKKK...*), Sanji feigns immobility (*'BUT THE LONGER HIS REACH IS...'* / *'...THE SLOWER HIS RECOVERY WILL BE. IF I CAN JUST EVADE HIS FIRST ATTACK, IN THAT ONE INSTANT I'LL HAVE THE ADVANTAGE.'*) — telegraphed monologue exposes the trap; Bon Clay launches *'NOW... DIE!!'* — Sanji slips it (*'MWA HA HA HA!! TOO BAD!!'*), grinning into a face-Nami transformation (*KLIK!!* / *'TA-DA! HOW DEUX I LOOK?!'*) — **Sanji uses Bon Clay's own grammar against him**, briefly disorienting him with a mock-Mane-Mane impersonation (which is actually Sanji's natural face overplayed with Bon-Clay-style theatrical reveal) — then lands ***BASSES CÔTE BLAST!!!*** (basses côte = lower rib in French butchery) — Bon Clay collapses (*HUGAH!!*). **First on-page Sanji-defeats-Officer-Agent-in-single-combat beat** — the Strawhats' first one-on-one Officer-tier knockout in Alabasta. Pre-loads the forward-canon *one Strawhat per Officer-Agent* arc-grammar payoff.
  • Sanji French Culinary Attack Naming Convention
  • **Bon Clay's *DEUX* counts** (p. 15). *'NOW I'LL PUNCH A PORT-HOLE IN YOU!! ...DEUX!!'* — Bon Clay uses *deux* (French *two*, matching his *Mr. 2* codename) as an attack-name suffix. **First on-page Bon-Clay-French-number-incorporation** — his codename-as-attack-name grammar paralleled to Sanji's French-culinary-name grammar. **Both combatants are in French.**

Summary

Cover-page (p. 1) — title OH COME MY WAY KARATE + Hachi’s Walk on the Seafloor, Vol. 6: “Hachi Receives a Ring in Gratitude”. The cover-story side-comic continues with Hachi (octopus-man, polka-dotted shirt, six-armed) wading through the surf toward a palm-tree island where a tiny lone figure sits fishing. Vol. 6 canonizes the serial-count.

In-story — Alubarna Palace (pp. 2-3). Wide-shot of the domed 4,000-year-old palace; a speech-bubble drifts in from off-frame: “DESTROY…” / ”…THE PALACE?!!” Cut to the Royal Court interior: Chaka (centurion-style armor, monumental and impassive) hears the order; the Royal Guard rank-and-file rage-reacts (GRAH GRAH GRAH RAH RAH RAH); Igaram (foreground, curly-wigged) shouts “PRINCESS VIVI! PRINCESS!!” / “YOU CAN’T BE SERIOUS!!”; another guard: “ARE YOU MAD, PRINCESS?!” / “THIS ANCIENT PALACE REPRESENTS 4,000 YEARS OF OUR HISTORY!!” Pell (background, ankh-staff, partially visible): “PRIN-CESS VIVI!” Another guard: “LORD CHAKA! DON’T LISTEN TO HER!!” / “THE KING WOULD NEVER CONSENT TO SUCH AN OUTRAGE DURING HIS ABSENCE!” Vivi (small, foregrounded against the guard-pack): “THE PEOPLE ARE THE KINGDOM!!”direct echo of Cobra’s Ch. 0165 doctrine. Chaka responds with monumental calm: “AS YOU WISH.” (p. 3, big-panel reveal). The Royal Guards behind him: ”?!!!” A figure leaps into the courtyard (TUMP…!! — likely a Bon-Clay-as-Vivi decoy already mid-execution, or a scene-cut transition).

The chapter’s main set-piece — Sanji vs. Bon Clay in the Alubarna streets (pp. 4-19) — is one continuous duel (the Strawhats’ split-the-officers tactic is operationally running in parallel off-screen).

pp. 4-6 — Nami-form ambush. Bon Clay has transformed into Nami (heart-eyed Nami in a swimsuit, Bon Clay’s swan-headdress still visible) and grinds his foot on Sanji’s downed head (GRIND GRIND): “DO YOU EVEN HAVE THE STRENGTH TO STAND UP, MR. TOP-FLIGHT SEA COOK?” / “BWA HA HA HA!! WHERE’S YOUR BRAVADO NOW, TOUGH GUY?!” / “STOMP!!!” Sanji (face-down, conflicted): “YOU SWAN!! YOU’RE NOT SO…” / Bon Clay-Nami: “NO MATTER HOW MUCH YOU LOOK LIKE NAMI YOU’RE STILL A SWAN ON THE INSIDE!! I’M NOT BEATEN YET!!”DARN IT!! SHE’S SO CUTE!! …HOT!! I FEEL LIKE TAKING SOME OF MY CLOTHES OFF. GOODNESS, IT’S SO HOT IN THIS COUNTRY. The love-comedy register triggers on Bon-Clay-Nami; Sanji’s chivalry-toward-women doctrine is operationalized as a combat vulnerability.

pp. 6-9 — Bon Clay’s attack-name barrage. Bon Clay (still Nami-form, then reverts mid-sequence): “SWAN CHOP!!” (p. 6, WHAK!!); Sanji counters with “KICK POINTE!!” (THWAK, p. 6) hitting Bon-Clay-Nami’s eye (“FOOL!!” / “MY EYE!!”); Bon Clay airborne reaction (“NEED SOME HELP?” / MWOON!). Bon Clay launches “BOOMERANG!!” (p. 7) — a mascara-pellet (MASCARA…!) projectile arcing back like a boomerang (TWING); reverts to original Bon Clay form (TOMP!, p. 7), confronts Sanji: “HUFF!! WHY, YOU DIRTY—!” — Sanji: “OH!! PLEASE DON’T KICK ME.” — Bon Clay: “MASCARA CATCH!!” (p. 8, SWIK!) snags Sanji’s leg in mid-kick with a mascara-tether. Sanji (held): “I’D LOVE TO STAY HERE AND PLAY WITH YOU ALL DAY… BUT I’VE GOT A PRINCESS TO KILL!!” (Bon Clay, KLIK!!). Bon Clay: “IT’S TIME TO FINISH YOU OFF!! TWIRL!! TWIRL!! I’M GOING TO TWIRL UNTIL THESE BALLET SLIPPERS BURN UP FROM MY PASSION!!” (FWIP FWIP FWIP, p. 8). Bon Clay launches “MEMOIR OF THAT SUMMER DAY!!” (p. 9, TWOOO! spinning aerial), and “OH COME MY WAY KARATE!!”first on-page utterance of the fighting-style as a named disciplineJOLIE… (Bon Clay’s drop-leg landing pose, p. 9, WHOOM).

pp. 10-12 — The mechanic-flaw exposed. Sanji (calm, smoking, mid-street): ”…BÄSTE!! I’VE FOUND THE FLAW IN YOUR POWER.” (p. 10). Bon Clay (mid-mascara, TMP…! TMP…!): “THAT’S ABSURD! MY POWER HAS NO FLAW!! WHAAAT?! HOW PRESUMPTUOUS!! HA HA HA HA HA HA!!” Sanji (lit cigarette, leaning, p. 11): “I admit that I can’t bring myself to attack you then…” / “You can’t use your Oh Come My Way Karate when you’re in Nami’s form.” / “But there’s a moment when you’re vulnerable — just before you attack, you always turn back into yourself…” / “…by touching your face with your left hand!” / “BULL’S-EYE.” Bon Clay (eyes wide, BLINK BLINK): “WHAT’S THAT?! I CAN’T HEAR A WORD YOU’RE SAYING.” (p. 11). Bon Clay (raging, p. 12): “THAT’S RIGHT!! I CAN ONLY USE MY OH COME MY WAY KARATE WHEN I’M IN THE FORM I TRAINED IN!! BUT SO WHAT?! YOU’RE TOO BEATEN UP TO DO ANYTHING NOW!! SO WHAT!!!”first on-page Mane-Mane-user-confirms-his-own-mechanic-flaw beat.

pp. 12-14 — PRIMA BALLERINA: Bon Clay rides the swan-flock. Bon Clay summons his white swan-henchmen (last seen Ch. 0160) and forms a chimera-mount (SWAAN, p. 12 full-page): “PRIMA BALLERINA!! IN FACT, I’LL SHOW YOU MY ULTIMATE OH COME MY WAY KARATE MOVE RIGHT NOW…” Sanji (terse): “WHO CAN TELL?” Bon Clay (pointing at the swans): “THE ONE ON YOUR RIGHT IS A MALE AND THE ONE ON YOUR LEFT IS FEMALE.” (WH UP!!, p. 13). Bon Clay: “BUT FIRST, LET ME TELL YOU THIS…” — Sanji (cigarette-puff stunned): “OH MY WAY KARATE…” — Bon Clay: “HA HA HA HA!! OH, NEVER MIND!! TAKE THIS!!”“SWAN BOMBARDIER!!” (p. 13, FWOOM) the swan-mount’s long necks lash out as beak-projectiles (SHOOM!!! SHIVER, p. 14). Sanji ducks (WHOOM!!); the beaks punch a clean hole in the wall behind him. Bon Clay (p. 14): “MY SWAN SLIPPERS HAVE LIMBER NECKS… AND BEAKS OF STEEL!!” / “GOOD THING YOU DUCKED!!” Sanji: “WHOA!! HE PUNCHED A HOLE IN THE WALL WITH HIS FOOT!”

pp. 14-15 — DEUX: the porthole-punch threat. Bon Clay (p. 15): “JUST THINK OF MY KICKS AS BULLETS FROM A RIFLE… ONLY A LOT BIGGER!! WHEN ENORMOUS POWER IS DIRECTED AT ONE POINT… IT DOESN’T CAUSE EXTRA DAMAGE!!” / “THERE ARE NO CRACKS AROUND THE HOLE!” (WOOO…) Bon Clay charges: “NOW I’LL PUNCH A PORT-HOLE IN YOU!!” — Sanji (ARGH!! UGH!!) tries to defend — “DEUX!!” (p. 15). First on-page Bon Clay use of French deux (two) as an attack-name — paralleling his Mr. 2 codename.

pp. 16-17 — COLLIER counter; WINTER WONDERLAND JETE finisher. Sanji counters with “COLLIER!!” (p. 16, THWAK) — French collier = neck/neck-meat — but Bon Clay swats it (WHY YOU—!!) and Bon Clay slams him (WHOK!, p. 16): “YOU CAN’T WIN!!” Sanji crumples; Bon Clay (p. 17 monologue): “LOOKS LIKE THIS MATCH IS OVER!!” / “HIS REACH IS TOO LONG!!” (Sanji thinking, in defeat-pose, smoking: “BLAST IT!!”). Bon Clay charges his finisher: “FLY!! FLY!! I’M FLYING!! OH COME MY WAY… WINTER WONDERLAND JETE!!” (p. 17, SHOOM!!) — a high-arc flying-kick.

pp. 18-19 — The bait, the DEUX-mock, and the finish. Sanji (p. 18, monologue, smoking, calm in the wreckage): “…but the longer his reach is… the slower his recovery will be. If I can just evade his first attack, in that one instant I’ll have the advantage.” The Bon Clay finisher lands (SH OOM!!, p. 18) — Bon Clay (p. 18 right-panel): “NOW… DIE!!” — Sanji dodges; Sanji-as-mock-Nami appears (KLIK!, TA-DA!): “MWA HA HA HA!! TOO BAD!! HOW DEUX I LOOK?!”Sanji deploys Bon Clay’s own deux grammar against him with a face-touch grin (mocking the Mane Mane no Mi reveal-pose). Bon Clay (p. 19, eyes wide, confused): “OOPS. KLIK…” / “HUH? WHERE?” — Nami-form Vivi-figure (Sanji?): ”…ON YOUR LEFT CHEEK? HEY, WHAT’S THAT?” Then “KA- — Sanji lands BASSES CÔTE BLAST!!” (KA-THWAK, p. 19) — basses côte (French butchery = beef lower rib) — Bon Clay collapses (HUGAH!!).

p. 20 — SBS Question Corner. Reader: “The One Piece anime isn’t shown where I live! How can this be?” Oda answers (Dec 4, 2001): the anime is on 27 stations; Aomori, Yamaguchi, Oita prefectures can’t get it; readers should petition Fuji TV / local affiliates. Reader (Meguko): “Eiichiro Oda Sensei, Let’s cut to the chase. Sincerely, Meguko.” Oda: “Yes, well… I suppose I should answer your question right away. Er…um… Yes. Err…yes. Um…” (cliffhanger / next-SBS-section continuation).

Open questions raised

  • Will Vivi actually destroy the palace? The Chaka-obeys AS YOU WISH sets up the order as in-effect; forward-canon reveals the destroy-the-palace decree is a tactical decoy or rescinded once the rebellion is divided. The chapter leaves the implementation open.
  • Where is the TUMP figure who leaps into the palace courtyard (p. 3)? Likely a scene-cut transition rather than an in-court arrival; could also be a Bon-Clay-decoy-Vivi arriving. The chapter doesn’t resolve who this is on-page.
  • How does Bon Clay’s defeat propagate to the other Officer-Agents? The Strawhats are operationally executing a one-Strawhat-per-Officer-Agent grammar; Bon Clay is now eliminated. The chapter doesn’t show the other duels (parallel resolution).
  • Will Sanji’s Mr. Prince persona deploy in the chapters that follow? The Sanji-as-counter-tactician + identity-warfare-grammar register pre-loads the Mr. Prince persona — forward-canon, the persona materializes in the Rain Dinners climax.
  • Who is the figure Hachi is approaching on the cover-story island? A child fisher; identity unrevealed at Vol. 6. The Receives a Ring in Gratitude subtitle implies a reward-token from a rescue-incident not yet shown on-page.
