- **Chapter title — *Chapter 125: CANDLE CHAMPION*** (page 1). The title is the on-page name for Mr. 3's **wax-armor battle-form** — a fully-encasing wax exoskeleton studded with candle-bombs and topped by a giant stylized *3* hood. The title-as-attack-name grammar (the chapter is named after the antagonist's signature ultimate-form rather than after a thematic figure) is **the second Officer-Agent-named chapter title** in the Little Garden arc (cf. Ch. 124 implicit / Ch. 120 *The Red Ogre Weeps*). Forward-pattern: every later Baroque-Works Officer-Agent set-piece arc-chapter gets at least one chapter-title-named-after-the-villain (Crocodile's *Desert Strolling*, Mr. 1's *Hasshōken*-tier). The *Champion* register is the **gladiator-tier framing** of Mr. 3 as the Wax-Wax-House's champion-statue-curator — pre-loads forward Colosseum-tier register (Hajrudin / Dressrosa).
- ***Candle Champion!!!*** (page 6) — **Mr. 3's wax-armor battle-form named on-page**. Mr. 3 emerges from the *Champion!!!* call-out wearing a **wax exoskeleton** with: (a) **stylized *3* hood-crest** wrapping over his head as a giant hard-wax helmet, (b) **studded candle-bomb-spheres** dotting the shoulders, chest, and limbs (these are detonator-tipped wax-spheres, the wax-armor's offensive payload), (c) **layered carapace plates** covering torso and limbs that Mr. 3 explicitly canonizes as *harder than steel* (p. 7 — *'my special Wax-Wax gently envelops me in a carapace that's harder than steel. And there's no weak point in this armor!!'*), (d) the candle-stub on his head still lit — the wax-secretion-anatomy preserved through the transformation. **First on-page Doru Doru no Mi user-tier combat-form** — the fruit is now demonstrated as **self-applicable** (wax-as-personal-armor, not just wax-as-imprisonment-medium for others). Pre-loads forward Paramecia *user-self-augmentation* sub-axis (compare: Mr. 1 forward-canon body-blade transformation, Doflamingo's string-clone-self-replication).
- **Mr. 3's *invincible-in-this-form* claim, immediate Gum-Gum-Pistol counter-test** (pages 7-8). Mr. 3 (full wax-armor pose, p. 7): *'Why, of course!! In fact, don't help me!! In this form, I'm already invincible!!!'* Page 8 — Luffy: *'Oh! Right. Gum-Gum...!!!'* Luffy fires *Gum-Gum Pistol* at the wax-armor; the wax-armor **rings off intact** (*KLANG!!*). **First on-page combat-grammar canonization of *Doru-Doru-armor > rubber-Pistol-strike*** — the wax exoskeleton **out-resists** Luffy's base-tier strike-attack. The combat-economy tier-ranking installed: wax-armor (Officer-Agent self-augmented Paramecia) > rubber-Pistol (captain-tier base attack). Forward-payoff: Luffy needs a **velocity-tier-jump** (later: Bullet / Gear-2 Jet Pistol) to break through wax-armor — pre-loads the *velocity-coded piercing* sub-axis (Bullet, Ch. 63 first-named).
- Luffy First Bounty 30 Million
- **Miss Goldenweek's *Crescendo Stone!!* — first named technique-attack on-page** (page 15). Miss Goldenweek (paint-brush poised, holding the Karoo-bound trio): *'Crescendo Stone!! Let's see how many kilograms of pressure you can withstand.'* She paints a small mark on Mr. 3's wax-statue holding the trio — and a weight-scale begins ticking up next to it: *'10 KILOS! ... 100 KILOS!! ... 200 KILOS!! ... 500 KILOS!!'* — successively crushing the bound trio. **First on-page Miss Goldenweek named technique** — the *Crescendo Stone* technique uses paint-application to inflict accumulating-weight-pressure on the painted target. The *Artist of Gravity* tagline (Ch. 120 p. 10) is now operationally explained: Goldenweek's color-magic produces a **literal gravity-pressure increase on the painted object**. Forward-canon: this is the *yellow paint = anger / red paint = fury / blue paint = calm / **black paint = gravity-crush*** sub-axis of her later **Color Trap** technique-suite (forward-canon ~Ch. 211). **First on-page operationalization of the *Artist of Gravity* tagline.**
- **Mr. 5's *Breeze Breath Bomb!!!* — second named Bomu-Bomu attack** (page 12). Mr. 5 (close-up, lips puckered exhaling): *'Breeze Breath Bomb!!!'* — a **detonator-exhalation projectile** that intercepts Usopp's Death-Blow Fire mid-call (p. 12 — *'I'm gonna save you now!!! Death Blow!! Fire--'* *BOOM!!*). **Second on-page Bomu Bomu no Mi named attack** (after Nez-Palm Cannon / booger-snap-cannon, Ch. 111). The technique extends the Bomu-Bomu vocabulary into a **breath/aerosol-projectile** sub-axis — the fruit's body-as-substance grammar generalizes from solid (boogers) to gaseous (breath). Forward-pattern: the *body-substance generalizes across phase-states* register becomes a recurring Paramecia mechanic (cf. Sand-Sand: dry → particulate; Soul-Soul: emotion → object; Doru-Doru: wax → carapace → mist this very chapter).
- **Mr. 3's *Wax-Wax Mist* — first on-page wax-aerosol pre-form** (page 9). Sanji (off-panel, dawning realization): *'A waxy mist!!'* — the air around the bound Strawhats is **filled with a pre-solidifying wax-vapor** that will harden into a sealing wax-statue carapace around them. **Third Doru Doru no Mi deployment-mode canonized**: (1) bulk-wax engulfment (Ch. 120 Brogy), (2) wax-architectural-trap (Ch. 122-124 Wax-Wax House), (3) **wax-mist aerosol pre-solidification** (Ch. 125). The fruit operates across phase-states — pre-load for the *Paramecia body-substance generalizes across phase-states* design-axis articulated this chapter.
- **Mr. 3 doctrine: *Heat melts wax*** (pages 11, 17) — Luffy (epiphany-register, p. 11): *'No matter how hard it is, it's still wax!!!'* / *'Heat can melt the wax!!!'* Usopp (page 11): *'That mist is melted wax!! Ah! Why didn't I see it sooner!?'* Page 17 — Luffy executes: *'If heat will melt the wax... then I'll use this fire right here!!'* — Luffy uses a small flame (Karoo's burning rope) to attempt to melt the wax. **First on-page Doru Doru no Mi weakness-mechanic canonized**: the fruit is **flammable / heat-vulnerable**. The *heat-melts-wax* mechanic is the **first explicit on-page Devil-Fruit-weakness install of the Doru Doru no Mi** — pre-loads every later wax-vs-fire combat dynamic. Mr. 3 panic-reacts (p. 11) — *'Don't give away our secrets!!!'* — implicitly canonizing this as the fruit's **load-bearing structural weakness**.
- **Mr. 3's *Wax-Wax Mist countdown — 30 seconds until their hearts stop*** (page 12). Mr. 3 (gloating, full-armor pose): *'Heh heh!! But that won't make any difference. You have no chance of winning!! And no more time!!'* / *'They've only got 30 seconds until their hearts stop forever!!'* Miss Goldenweek (echoing): *'Right about now, the darkness is closing in on your friends!! They're tormented by pain and the horror of death!!'* The wax-mist is canonized as an **active-suffocating execution-mechanism** with a **30-second on-page kill-clock**. **First on-page Baroque-Works execution-with-timer set-piece** — the time-pressure narrative-engine is now operationally installed for the Wax-Wax House climax. Pre-loads the *villain-articulates-the-kill-clock-then-loses* arc-grammar that the Strawhats inherit across every later climax.
- **Sanji rescues Vivi, Nami, Zoro from the wax-statue trap — captain-substitute-rescue-initiator beat** (page 2). Sanji (close-up, smoke trail rising from cigarette, sweat-flopped, brows furrowed): *'They've been gone a long time.'* / *'Something's definitely wrong. Very wrong.'* / *'Why haven't they come back?'* / *'If so, this is no time for me to be cooking a lizard dinner.'* / *'Could something have happened to Nami or Vivi!!?'* / *'That's it, I'm gonna go look for them.'* Sanji-on-Going-Merry composition (panel 2, ship-on-shore long-shot) — Sanji **abandons the cook-station to initiate the rescue mission**. *TUMP!!!* (page 2 final panel — Sanji leaping ashore). **First on-page Sanji-as-captain-substitute beat** — with Luffy already in the jungle, Sanji takes the *go-look-for-the-missing-crew* initiative. The chivalric-rescue-priority register from Ch. 119 (*'Nami!?'* heart-eyed at her scream) now scales into a **multi-target rescue-initiator beat** (Nami **and** Vivi). Pre-loads Sanji's recurring *I-leave-the-ship-to-rescue-women* arc-grammar (Drum Doctorine-rescue, Alabasta Cocoyasi-rescue, Arabasta-Nico-Robin-rescue, Skypiea Conis-rescue).
- **Sanji-arrives-too-late composition — the three bound wax-statues already standing in the jungle** (pages 3-4). Sanji (jungle-arrival, p. 3): *'Vi-vi!'* / *'Na-mi!'* (calling). Sanji (jungle-arrival, p. 4 lower): *'What's this?'* — and looks up at **three wax-statue-pedestals** holding Vivi, Nami, and Zoro bound and crying out (one labeled *Mr. 5* — wait, actually the figure on the pedestal is **Zoro** — *'Vi-Vi!'* and *'Na-mi!'* are heard; *'Hey! You out there!?'* is heard). Page 4 — Mr. 3 reveals the wax-pedestal-trio fully: Vivi crying *'I love you!'*, Zoro crying *'Hey! You out there!?'*, Nami crying *'MRAR!!!'* (cat-like roar — the **affect-painted-by-Goldenweek register** is on display: Vivi has been painted to feel **love**, Zoro to feel **agitated/aggressive**, Nami **bestial**). **First on-page Color-Trap-implied affect-painting** — Goldenweek's paint-on-people produces **emotional-state-distortion** on the painted targets. Forward-pattern: the Color Trap technique-suite is forward-canon (~Ch. 211); the **Ch. 125 affect-painted-trio is the first on-page operational evidence** of this technique.
- Igaram Decoy Sacrifice Composition
Arc: Little Garden · Saga: Alabasta · Volume: 14
Summary
Cover-art opens the chapter (p. 1): Igaram in Igarappoi hairnet-disguise, Karoo in a DJK baseball cap with side-pouch and tourist-wardrobe, and a tall blonde woman in a star-sweater — composed as a survival-and-travel trio. This is the first cover-story since the Koby/Helmeppo cover-arc closed at Ch. 119, and the first on-page signal that Igaram survived the Ch. 113 Whisky Peak decoy-explosion. The cover-grammar reads as the opening installment of the Vivi’s Adventure / Diary of Koza-style cover-arc that will run through Drum and Alabasta.
Cut to the Going Merry (p. 2): Sanji alone on the ship, smoking, brows furrowed. He monologues that “They’ve been gone a long time. Something’s definitely wrong. Very wrong. Why haven’t they come back? … Could something have happened to Nami or Vivi!!?” He abandons his cooking station (“if so, this is no time for me to be cooking a lizard dinner”) and leaps ashore (TUMP!!) to initiate the rescue mission. First on-page Sanji-as-captain-substitute beat — with Luffy in the jungle, Sanji takes the go-look-for-the-missing-crew initiative.
Sanji reaches the wax-pedestal site (pp. 3-4) and finds three wax-statues — Vivi, Zoro, and Nami — bound and emotionally distorted: Vivi calls out “I love you!”, Zoro shouts “Hey! You out there!?”, Nami roars “MRAR!!!” (cat-like). First on-page operational evidence of Miss Goldenweek’s color-emotion-painting (forward-canon: the Color Trap technique — the bound captives have been affect-painted by Goldenweek to feel imposed emotional states). Page 4 — Mr. 3 (off-panel, gloating): “So what if you’re mad? Look at your friends!” / ”…They’ll all be magnificent wax figures.” / “Ha ha — I wouldn’t be too sure about that. When Ms. Goldenweek finishes her painting…”
Luffy arrives (p. 5) — “That’s okay!! They’re still alive!!!” — and faces off against Mr. 3 + Miss Goldenweek + Mr. 5 + Miss Valentine across a wax-armory clearing. Mr. 3 (close-up, p. 5): “Taste the bitterness of despair!!! Woooo… that’s right!!! …It’s too late, Straw Hat!” Page 6 — Mr. 3 transforms into the Candle Champion (BA-BOOM!! ATTACK!!) — a fully-encasing wax exoskeleton: stylized 3 hood-crest, studded candle-bomb-spheres on shoulders/chest/limbs, layered carapace plates. Miss Goldenweek (presenting): “That’s Mr. 3’s masterpiece!!!” / “He once took down a criminal worth 42 million berries with that thing.” Mr. 3 (full-armor pose): “He’ll crush that impudent Straw Hat!!!” / “My special Wax-Wax gently envelops me in a carapace that’s harder than steel. And there’s no weak point in this armor!!” / “Why, of course!! In fact, don’t help me!! In this form, I’m already invincible!!!”
Luffy fires Gum-Gum Pistol (p. 8) — the wax-armor rings off intact (KLANG!!). Mr. 3 charges Luffy in a Championship fight… Little Garden!!!! (p. 9) — wax-armor body-slam (BAM BAM BAM BAM). Luffy counters with a foot-stomp (Stamp!!, p. 10) — but Mr. 3 rolls into a wax-ball form and detonates a candle-bomb at Luffy’s feet (Voom…).
Realization beat (p. 11): Luffy connects the waxy-mist-around-the-captives observation to the fruit’s weakness — “No matter how hard it is, it’s still wax!!!” / “Heat can melt the wax!!!” Usopp (echoing): “That mist is melted wax!! Ah! Why didn’t I see it sooner!?” Karoo (newly arrived): QUACK!!! DING!! — Karoo carries a sword. Vivi (off-pedestal voice, p. 11): “Our guys and Master Broggy haven’t been solid for very long!! We can still save them!!” Mr. 3 panic-reacts (p. 11): “Don’t give away our secrets!!!” — first on-page Doru Doru no Mi weakness-mechanic canonization (heat-melts-wax).
Mr. 3 articulates the kill-clock (p. 12): “Heh heh!! But that won’t make any difference. You have no chance of winning!! And no more time!!” / “They’ve only got 30 seconds until their hearts stop forever!!” Miss Goldenweek (echoing): “Right about now, the darkness is closing in on your friends!! They’re tormented by pain and the horror of death!!” Usopp draws a flame and prepares “Death Blow!! Fire—” (p. 12) — interrupted by Mr. 5’s “Breeze Breath Bomb!!!” (BOOM!!) — Mr. 5’s second on-page named attack, a detonating breath-projectile that intercepts Usopp’s fire-attack mid-call.
Karoo (p. 13) attempts to free the bound captives — QUACK!! QUACK!! — and approaches the wax-pedestals, but is intercepted (the pedestal area is a wax-arena). The trio is now bound by rope from Karoo’s saddle-rigging (the duck is at the foot of the pedestals, p. 13-14). Mr. 3 strikes at Karoo (WHAM!, p. 14) — “Give up!!!” — landing a giant-wax-ball blow.
Page 14 lower — Miss Goldenweek (sipping tea / lollipop): “What are you two plotting? Won’t you let me in on it?” (addressed to the bound captives) / “Hey, take this rope!” — she hands a rope-end to Karoo, suggesting a duress-game where Karoo is given the means to pull the captives free but at the cost of Goldenweek’s involvement.
Page 15 — Karoo pulls the rope (TMP TMP TMP); the bound captives shift (“Go, Karoo!!!”, “Quack!!!”, “It’s all over” — Mr. 3 gloating). Miss Goldenweek applies paint to the captives’ wax-statue base — “Crescendo Stone!! Let’s see how many kilograms of pressure you can withstand.” The weight-scale ticks: 10 KILOS! … 100 KILOS!! … 200 KILOS!! … 500 KILOS!! (pp. 15-16). First on-page named technique for Miss Goldenweek — the Crescendo Stone technique uses paint-application to inflict accumulating gravity-pressure on the painted target. The Artist of Gravity tagline (Ch. 120 p. 10) is now operationally explained.
Mr. 3 (running, p. 16): “Run around them!!” / “Impudent bird!!” — strikes Karoo (WHAM!! KA-BAM!! WHAM!!). Karoo cries “Hmph!! Forget it!!” / ”…I’m not losing my friends…” — Karoo continues fighting through the beating. Mr. 3 (p. 16): “Ha ha ha!! Give it up!! They’ve already become my works of art!!” — explicitly canonizing the wax-statue-trophy-gallery doctrine (Mr. 3 collects executed targets as art-pieces).
Mr. 3 lands a finishing hit on Karoo (p. 17 — WHAP!! …to the likes of you!!!). Luffy (urgency-register): “If heat will melt the wax… then I’ll use this fire right here!!” — Luffy approaches Karoo’s saddle-rigging, where a small fire is burning (the bird’s rope?) — Luffy attempts to light a flame from Karoo’s burning saddle-rope to deploy against the wax-armor. Vivi (off-pedestal, urgency): “Luffy!!! That flame’s too small!! Light Karoo’s rope!!!” — chapter-end cliffhanger: Luffy has identified the fruit-weakness but the deployable flame-source is inadequate — the rescue requires escalating the flame-tier.
Page 18 — Storyboard Presentation #16 (back-matter): Oda’s rough-pencil-storyboard of vol. 14 page 100 — the chapter’s editor-canonized behind-the-scenes-art-process inclusion.

Open questions raised
- Will Luffy ignite Karoo’s saddle-rope-fire in time to break the wax-armor and the 30-second kill-clock? Chapter ends on the cliffhanger of Luffy attempting to deploy fire against the wax-armor. Forward-canon: yes — the heat-melts-wax mechanic is the arc-resolution vector for the entire Wax-Wax House set-piece.
- What is Miss Goldenweek’s full Color Trap technique-suite? Only one named technique (Crescendo Stone) on-page in Ch. 125; the affect-painted-trio (Vivi-love, Zoro-aggression, Nami-bestial) implies a multi-color emotion-map technique-suite. Forward-canon: the full Color Trap technique-suite is canonized ~Ch. 211 (red = anger, yellow = relaxation, blue = calm, black = gravity-crush etc.).
- Who is the 42 million berry criminal Mr. 3 took down with the Candle Champion? Named only by bounty-figure, not by identity. Forward-canon: never named explicitly; remains a Mr. 3 villain-history factoid.
- Who is the blonde woman in the star-sweater in the cover-art? First on-page appearance. Forward-canon: Terracotta (head of Alabasta royal palace kitchen staff, Igaram’s wife). Not named on-page here — treated as a one-off cover-art companion at this stage.
- Will Igaram return on-page now that the cover-art has signaled his survival? Cover-art hint only — forward-canon: yes, Igaram returns alive on-page much later in the Alabasta saga.
- How will the wax-statue captives (Vivi, Zoro, Nami, plus implied Brogy + Usopp now) be freed? The kill-clock is 30 seconds. The fire-deployment is the chapter’s identified solution-vector. Forward-canon: Luffy uses the saddle-fire to heat-and-burn through the wax in the next chapter (126).
- What happens to Mr. 5 + Miss Valentine in the rescue? They are present in the wax-arena clearing but not the kill-clock-bearers. Forward-canon: Sanji + Usopp + Karoo handle Mr. 5 + Miss Valentine in parallel-combat over the next chapters.
