Summary

A flashback to Bartholomew Kuma’s past, spanning 30 to 14 years ago. At Sorbet Kingdom in the South Blue — eight years after the God Valley incident (30 years ago) — the 17-year-old Kuma is a beloved church pastor who inherited the role from his father; every Sunday he uses his paws to draw the villagers’ pain and illness into himself, then silently endures the agony, since the extracted suffering will return to its owner unless someone bears it. His sharp-tongued companion Ginny watches over him and keeps proposing marriage, which he refuses: he carries Buccaneer blood, a persecuted lineage, and won’t bring her misery; his dream is to one day go to sea and use his life to help others. The kingdom’s cruel new ruler, King Bekori — a tool of the Celestial Dragons — redraws the realm so that only the wealthy north counts as Sorbet Kingdom, stripping the poor, old southerners of citizenship to lower the Heavenly Tribute and enslaving them. Kuma storms the royal city to free prisoners and is jailed. There Dragon and Ivankov intervene, force Bekori to rescind the enslavement policy, and break Kuma and Ginny out — and together they become the Revolutionary Army “the world would later know and fear.” Dragon lays out his doctrine (a mercenary force to topple tyrant kings, grown into a global army) and reveals he once served in the Navy. Eight more years pass; 14 years ago, Ginny is a Revolutionary Army Captain of the Eastern Forces — and the chapter ends as Baltigo HQ receives word that Ginny has been captured.
