The seed

Chain: Ch. 1010 Kaido notices Zoro unconsciously infusing Conqueror’s; Ch. 1152 Gaban tells him Haki “is a power that’s only useful when you consciously control it.” 1193 is the first conscious attempt, framed as training against a live immortal. Parallel: Luffy refining Conqueror’s coating across repeated bouts with Kaido in Wano. “The old man” is plausibly Gaban (inference).

The payoff

(Pending — the heart is not destroyed on-page.)

Why this matters

A stated kill condition plus a failed first attempt is Oda’s standard training-arc grammar: the rule is installed on-page, the hero cannot yet meet it, and the fight becomes the classroom.

Closest neighbour: Gaban’s Blade Negates the Holy Knights’ Immortality (confirmed @1170 — strikes infused with Supreme King Haki counter the covenant’s immortality). That note is the general rule; this note is the Zoro-specific steel-heart kill condition — kept distinct, not merged. Related: Cursed And Controlled Monsters Are Felled By Conquerors Haki — Rocks And Harald Parallel, Kaido Names Conquerors Haki As Odens Special Trick, The Covenant With the Great One Grants Immortality and Binds Signers to Imu’s Voice, Haki, Worlds Greatest Swordsman.

MERGE-WATCH (kept distinct, @1194): Mihawk Teaches Zoro That Supreme King Haki Is A Sense Of Self — same payoff, different seed (the doctrine of what Supreme King Haki is vs. this note’s kill-condition deduction). Related: Omen Is The Counterpart Of Supreme King Haki.
