Chapter 872: Thick and Fluffy

Summary

A flashback establishes the trap: when Luffy’s crew was at Fish-Man Island he received the bomb-armed Tamatebox and, refusing to give it back, passed it up to Big Mom with the rest of the tribute treasure (p. 3). In the present day that box detonates at the base of Whole Cake Chateau, opening a complete fault line from the Eastern Baum meeting room and bringing the entire castle down (pp. 4–7). The blast accidentally saves Bege’s coup crew — who were about to be killed at the altar — and panics the Charlotte family. As the Chateau collapses, head chef Streusen leaps from the blast with a song (“thick and fluffy… pain and strife♪”) and a “Metamorphosis,” using his power to convert the falling castle into an enormous cake of cream and sponge, cushioning everyone (pp. 11–15) . A Charlotte officer orders every Tarte base in Totto Land to stop the Straw Hats and Firetank Pirates from escaping . On the northwest coast, Bege ejects the alliance from his Big Father fortress; the Straw Hats and Firetank Pirates split to escape separately, and Caesar — heart returned — flies off (pp. 16–18). Katakuri orders Daifuku to assemble two pursuit squads, and Big Mom, fixating on her lost wedding cake, slides into a full craving fit (p. 19).

• The Tamatebox Luffy gave up at Fish-Man Island was bomb-armed; it detonates here at the foundation of Whole Cake Chateau, splitting and collapsing the castle (pp. 3–7).
• Streusen, the Big Mom Pirates’ head chef, has a power that turns matter into food — he transforms the entire collapsing Chateau into an actual giant cake (cream + sponge), saving the whole city (pp. 12–15, 17).
• The “Metamorphosis” and accompanying song on p. 11 are Streusen’s cake-transform incantation — not Big Mom’s distress; Big Mom’s own craving fit onsets separately (p. 19) .
• The explosion inadvertently saved Bege’s coup crew, who were seconds from being killed at the rooftop wedding (p. 6).
• Caesar Clown reclaims his heart from Bege and departs the alliance (“My heart is back!!!”, p. 17).
• Katakuri takes command of the pursuit, splitting the Big Mom forces into two squads — one for the Straw Hats, one for Bege’s head — and orders Daifuku to assemble them (p. 19).
• SBS (p. 20): Red-Haired Shanks’s sword is named “Griffon” and has been carried “since the very first chapter”; Sanji ended up with his parents’ natural hair color because Vinsmoke bloodline-element manipulation did not take on him.
