The Tamatebox Is Bomb-Armed And Handed To Big Mom As Tribute
Status: confirmed · Technique: chekhov-explicit · prop-tell
The seed
Ch. 871 pp. 4-6, 16 — the bomb-box is dislodged and fought over
The bomb-rigged Tamate Box is dislodged and physically in play on the chateau — Du Feld dives for its “Treasure of the Deep,” Stussy /CP0 shoots him down and claims it for the World Government , and it tumbles amid the rampage. The prop is re-staged in mid-air; detonation remains forward.
Ch. 869 pp. 13-14 — the box is swiped and slips loose
During the wedding chaos a Big Mom Pirate swipes the giant Tamatebox to swap out its contents, cracks it open, and it slips loose — the bomb-rigged tribute box is now loose and unaccounted-for inside Whole Cake Chateau, re-positioned for a later detonation.
The Tamatebox was secretly armed with a bomb ten years ago when it was found empty, so that any thief who opened it would “pay a terrible price.” It has just been handed to Big Mom along with Fish-Man Island’s tribute treasure. The Minister of the Right fears that if Big Mom opens it, “the resulting explosion will be seen as a direct assault from Luffy’s group” — and Luffy has just provoked her by phone.
As the crew departs Fish-Man Island, King Neptune and his ministers whisper in panic that the treasure-box tribute they sent up to Big Mom holds a bomb planted a decade ago — “you planted this bomb a decade ago, yes? Might it not fail to detonate?” / “if the Tamate Box Luffy sent to Big Mom explodes… they must be warned!” They fear it will detonate inside the Yonko’s palace and bring an Emperor’s wrath down on the island (“one of the Four Emperors has it in for us!”). The Chekhov bomb sails off-panel into a Yonko’s home with its fuse unresolved as the Straw Hats sail away. Cross-link Four Emperors (Yonko) , Big Mom Protects Fish-Man Island For Sweets Tribute .
Ch. 847 pp. 11-12 — the box resurfaces, staged for a public opening
Big Mom confirms she still holds the Tamate Box (King Neptune ’s tribute from Fish-Man Island ) and will open it at the tea party tomorrow, in front of everyone — staging the bomb-armed prop for a public opening in her own hall. Strong evidence the prop is being loaded toward a catastrophic public payoff. See Tamatebox .
Ch. 861 pp. 6-7 — the box is brought out; a public opening time/place is set
The Tamate Box is brought out at the tea party among the wedding-gift treasure chests, and Big Mom announces she will open it publicly at the grand banquet after Pudding’s wedding “for all to see.” The bomb fuse is now staged for a specific public moment .
The payoff
Ch. 872 pp. 3-7 — the bomb detonates and collapses the Chateau
PAYOFF. The bomb-armed Tamate Box detonates at the foundation of Whole Cake Chateau , opening a complete fault from the Eastern Baum meeting room and collapsing the castle (“A sudden explosion is causing Whole Cake Chateau to collapse!!!”, pp. 5-7). A flashback (p. 3) re-confirms the chain: Luffy received the box at Fish-Man Island , refused to return it as a gift, and passed it up to Big Mom with all the tribute treasure — exactly as King Neptune ’s ministers feared. Detonation is on-page within the window → confirmed @0872 . (status pending→confirmed; payoff_chapter SET 0872; evidence_chapters += 0872. NOTE: the batch reconcile’s “~0898-0902 forward” was a carry-over estimate; the pages are authoritative and show the detonation on-page @0872.)
Why this matters
A named, single-effect prop (a bomb) loaded inside a fairy-tale box, then physically delivered into the lap of a Yonko Luffy just antagonized. The dramatic irony is spelled out on-page by a worried official. A textbook chekhov-explicit + prop-tell seed; payoff is forward of this read window — keep status: pending.
