Land of the Dead
Profile
Land of the Dead (死の国 Shinokuni) is Caesar Clown’s perfected weapon of mass murder: the artificial gas-creature Smiley — an incarnation of toxic H₂S gas — is force-fed a “special food” candy and “reborn” into a gas that engulfs an entire island. Caesar names it Ch. 675 (the chapter is titled “I Call It Land of the Dead”; the splash ”…LAND OF THE DEAD!!!” prints p. 14) and first deploys it on-page Ch. 676.
Unlike the poison that killed Punk Hazard four years ago — which “left them mobile enough to find safety” — the Land of the Dead covers victims like ash, seeps into the skin, and instantly petrifies/paralyzes them into ash-covered statues where they stand, leaving “not a single soul outside this lab” alive (Ch. 676 pp. 11, 16). Only Caesar’s gas-sealed lab is safe; onlookers and clients locked outside are sacrificed in the live demonstration.
Key chapters
- Ch. 675 — named by Caesar (”…Land of the Dead!!!”, p. 14); Smiley fed the “special food” and re-formed.
- Ch. 676 — deployed on-page: the gas erupts across the island (full-page detonation, p. 8) and petrifies the fleeing into statues (pp. 10-11); Caesar’s total-kill design stated (pp. 16-17).
- Ch. 685 — the ticking-clock threat: a facility caption gives “about 20 minutes” until the Land of the Dead gas fills Structure B (the Biscuits Room), where the rescue group and the candy-addicted captive children are gathered (p. 19). (HOLD fm/fa — appearance/recap only.) See Punk Hazard’s Captive Children.
- Ch. 691 — the gas is materialized into a colossal humanoid monster bearing the kanji 死国 on its chest (“the power of science!!!”), which devours Caesar’s own men (pp. 14–16). Caesar reveals two nations have already bought the weapon and vows to reign as “king of the Land of the Dead” (p. 15) — the weapon now publicly demonstrated and sold as a finished product. (HOLD fm 0675/fa 0676 — appearance/escalation only.) See Caesar Crowns Himself King Of The Land Of The Dead And Sells His Gas-Weapon To Two Nations.
- Ch. 692 — the gas floods Structure B almost entirely; it is lethal (Kin’emon “got hit by the killer gas… results were FATAL”) and the only route off the island is the R-66 gate (pp. 8–11). Buffalo wonders whether spinning a typhoon (“Storm Gust / Matasaburo”) could blow it away (p. 16). (HOLD fm 0675/fa 0676 — escalation/recap only.)
