Why this matters
The negative-space giant-foreshadow is Oda’s preferred show-the-effect-before-the-cause setup for high-impact character debuts: the reader knows something far larger than the tiger lives here, but is forced to wait for the next chapter to see what. The technique pays off in Ch. 115+ when Brogy and Dorry physically appear and the reader retro-fits the footprint to the giant.
Sister-pattern: the unseen-giant-via-footprint grammar recurs (Oars/Oars Jr. via shadow, Sea Kings via wake, Yonko via ship-silhouette) — this Ch. 114 chapter-close is the first install of the cause-rendered-via-effect grammar in the series at this scale.
Also installs the chapter-closes-on-the-next-arc-tease grammar: the chapter ends not with the current arc’s resolution but with a peek at the next arc’s central mystery.
