The Ushi Ushi no Mi, Model Giraffe (VIZ “Ox-Ox Fruit, Giraffe Model”) is a Zoan-class Devil Fruit eaten by the CP9 agent Kaku. The giraffe FORM is first shown on-page Ch. 401 (Kaku, aiming for his man-beast form, “turned into a FULL giraffe instead!”, pp. 18-19); the VIZ caption naming the fruit — “OX-OX FRUIT, GIRAFFE MODEL” — first appears Ch. 402 p. 2 (carried over as a recap into the combat scene). Kaku ate the (then-unnamed) fruit gifted by Director Spandam Ch. 379 from a treasure chest, in Lucci’s Room (re-context Ch. 385). Part of the CP9 animal-Zoan menagerie (Lucci/leopard, Kaku/giraffe, Jabra/wolf — lampshaded “Is this some kind of zoo?!”, Ch. 401 p. 19). Pays off the “horn” reading of Kaku’s name (角) — see Kaku Name 角 Horn-Square Encodes Giraffe Zoan. Combat demonstration (Ch. 402)
In his giraffe man-beast form, Kaku channels the centrifugal force of his huge body into his Tempest Kick (Rankyaku) cuts — “his reach, the centrifugal force combined with the power in that huge body, makes the cutting edge much sharper and go deeper.” His “Tempest Kick — Sky Slicer” (pp. 6-8) cuts the Tower of Law clean in half along a perfect plane that slides apart without shattering (“Hey, I can see the sky”). The long-necked, horned giraffe body’s reach is the augment that makes the cut possible.
Power limits & weaknesses
- (Water/sea immobilization is universal to Devil-Fruit users.)
- Zoan: per the Ch. 349 doctrine (Nature of Devil Fruits), Zoan grow more capable with physical training — consistent with Kaku’s mastery of the Six Powers alongside the fruit.
