Etymology

No encoded name meaning is confirmed — Sarquiss (JP サーキース Sākīsu; later canon “Sarkies”) reads as a phonetic name. The only documented wordplay is on his epithet, “Big Knife Sarquiss”: his SBS birthday July 12 (7-1-2) is a goroawase — 7-1-2 → na-i-fu (ナイフ, “knife”). Jaya — Mock Town (Ch. 233)

• Rages at Luffy after Bellamy’s defeat — “Straw Hat!! Where do you think you’re going?!” / “Come at me! No starry-eyed fool is gonna beat us!” (p. 7) — but Luffy walks away without engaging.
