Name meaning
**Mock Town** — English **'mock'** = to ridicule/deride. The caption literally glosses it as 'the town of derision.' The name encodes the Jaya arc's thesis: a town whose residents and the Bellamy Pirates relentlessly mock dreams and dreamers ('the age of dreaming is over'; Luffy's bounty dismissed as a lie). The name pays off when Luffy silences the entire mocking town with a single punch to Bellamy (Ch. 0232). A clean name-etymology + parallel-arc seed — see Mock Town Mocks Dreamers Name-Etymology Doctrine. (Design-wise the town is Southeast-Asian-coded — Thai/Lao roofs, Balinese *udeng* headbands — matching Jaya.)

Profile

Mock Town is a port town on the western shore of Jaya, introduced in Ch. 222 (pp. 12-13). Captioned “the town of derision,” it is “a place beyond the reach of government, where lawless ruffians gather… to fight and carouse.” It looks like a resort but its harbor is packed with pirate ships. Home base of the Bellamy Pirates; site of Bellamy’s impaling of Roshio the Executioner (pp. 16-19). Luffy and Zoro arrive at its edge (p. 20).

Etymology

(Name origin if researched — forward to etymology pass.)

  • Seed (from Ch. 0223): “Mock” = to ridicule. The town’s residents and the Bellamy Pirates relentlessly mock dreams and dreamers — the arc’s thesis. Luffy’s 30M bounty is dismissed as an obvious lie. Worth flagging as a name-etymology seed; see Mock Town Mocks Dreamers Name-Etymology Doctrine.

Key chapters

  • Ch. 222 — first appearance; established as the lawless port on Jaya’s western shore; Bellamy/Roshio bar confrontation; Luffy + Zoro arrive at the edge.
  • Ch. 223 — town doctrine established (built on pirate booty; brawls/killings commonplace but townsfolk never touched, pp. 14-15); Sarquiss ejects the Straw Hats from the Tropical Hotel; Luffy meets the shadow-faced Blackbeard at a tavern bar; Log Pose resets in four days (p. 15).
  • Ch. 224 — The Mock Town bar/saloon is the full setting of the chapter. Its character as a “town of derision” pays off literally: when Luffy asks how to reach Sky Island, the entire packed bar erupts in laughter and joins Bellamy in mocking the Straw Hats, throwing grog and shouting “Get out of town!” (pp. 10-19). The town scoffs at thirty-million bounties and at dreaming itself.
  • Ch. 229 — Recalled (not on-screen): Nami notes that what she “heard in Mock Town” about the Knock-Up Stream was only that it would smash a ship against the ocean (page 6).
  • Ch. 231 — Set as Luffy’s destination: enraged that Bellamy “beat the dreams out of” the salvage crew, Luffy resolves to return to Mock Town to fight him, taking a sword from Zoro and vowing “I’ll be back by sunrise” (p. 19).
