Summary

At Thriller Bark, immediately after the grueling victory over Oars and Gecko Moria, the newly-arrived Warlord Bartholomew Kuma turns on the exhausted Straw Hats. Roronoa Zoro accepts Kuma’s challenge alone and attacks with Rashomon, the 36 Pound Phoenix, and Streaming Wolf-Swords — but every strike is repelled by Kuma’s bare, paw-padded palms. Kuma reveals he ate the Paw-Paw Fruit and became a “paw-palmed human,” demonstrating that he can deflect anything, including the atmosphere itself, firing compressed air as a Pad Cannon / Thrust Pad Cannon. Sanji’s Concasser and Usopp’s Phoenix Star fare no better; Kuma is so durable Sanji’s kick “doesn’t even flinch” him. Kuma then compresses a giant mass of air into a shrinking paw-shaped bomb and offers the crew a bargain: hand over Straw Hat Luffy’s head and he will spare the rest of them — “the government will be satisfied.” The crew unanimously refuses (“Never!!!!”), and Kuma releases the bomb — Ursa Shock — detonating a colossal shock wave across the island over the unconscious Luffy.
