  • The Galley-La shipwrights' verdict on the Going Merry is delivered: her keel is damaged beyond repair — 'she just can't be fixed' / 'can't be repaired any further' / she won't even make it to the next island
  • Luffy decides to switch ships: 'We owe a lot to Merry Go, but this is as far as she'll sail. I've decided to switch ships.' — the crew lacks the money to repair her anyway (the 200 million was stolen by the Franky Family), and a secondhand replacement would cost about 100 million
  • Usopp violently opposes abandoning the Merry, escalating into a screaming fight with Luffy; Luffy tells Usopp 'You're not a ship's carpenter!' and rejects his offer to keep patching her
  • Sanji kicks Luffy mid-sentence ('Cut the crap! You idiot!') to stop him saying something he'll regret about Usopp being a weak/useless shipmate
  • Usopp announces he is quitting the crew: 'I'M QUITTING THIS CREW' — reframing his loss of the Merry into self-deprecation that he's a burden who can't keep up with the crew's 'monstrous powers'
  • Usopp challenges Luffy to a duel for the Going Merry: 'Monkey D. Luffy... If I win, I'm taking Merry Go! So fight me for her!!' — Luffy accepts (DADOOM cliffhanger)
  • Mr. Corgi is named as a recurring petitioner who keeps coming to Iceburg wanting 'something' the mayor has and always leaves in a huff
  • Iceburg's secretary Kalifa is shown at Galley-La HQ; Robin's wanted poster is now valued at 79,000,000 berries on Iceburg's office wall

Summary

At Galley-La Company headquarters in Water Seven, mayor/president Iceburg wraps up a meeting; his secretary Kalifa notes that a recurring petitioner, Mr. Corgi, keeps coming to ask for “something” Iceburg has and always leaves in a huff (pp. 2–3). Robin’s wanted poster — now 79,000,000 berries — hangs on the office wall. Aboard the Going Merry, the rest of the crew get the news that the Franky Family failed to recover their stolen money, and that the shipwrights have assessed the Merry. Luffy delivers the chapter’s bombshell: “We owe a lot to Merry Go, but this is as far as she’ll sail. I’ve decided to switch ships.” The shipwrights’ verdict — the Merry’s keel/structure is damaged beyond repair; “she just can’t be fixed,” “can’t be repaired any further,” she won’t even make it to the next island. Usopp erupts: he refuses to abandon the ship that carried them “over every wave, in every battle,” insists he can keep patching her, and rounds on Luffy — “Is that all this ship means to you?!” The argument detonates into a screaming match; Luffy, hardening, tells Usopp “You’re not a ship’s carpenter!” and “I will never turn my back on this ship!” Usopp accuses Luffy of having “gotten all old and made an idiotic decision,” of only pretending to care about Merry while already excited for a new ship, and — gripped by his own inadequacy — pivots: “If you’re gonna abandon this ship… why not do the same with me?! …I’ll just be a burden on you guys… I can’t keep up with the monstrous powers you guys possess!” As Luffy, enraged, is about to say something unforgivable, Sanji kicks him silent (“Cut the crap! You idiot!”). Usopp storms off the ship — “I’M QUITTING THIS CREW.” Outside, he turns back and formally challenges his captain: “Monkey D. Luffy… If I win, I’m taking Merry Go! So fight me for her!! You’re the captain, and this ship belongs to you… FIGHT ME!!” The chapter ends on a DADOOM split-panel of Luffy’s and Usopp’s faces locked in confrontation, the duel accepted.
