The Empty Throne Is Secretly Occupied By The Hidden Sovereign Imu
Status: confirmed (payoff Ch. 1179 ) · Technique: negative-space, background-symbol
The seed
Ch. 908 pp. 15–17 — the Gorosei kneel to “Great Imu”
At the Reverie’s climax, the Five Elders — long presented as the World Government’s apex — kneel before a throne in the Chamber of Flowers and hail “Great Imu,” offering to strike any name from history. The seat the world believes is power’s empty center is in fact occupied by a hidden ruler (Imu ), shown only as a shadow with one visible eye; a lone sword stands beside the throne.
The payoff
Ch. 1179 p. 17 — CONFIRMED (formal reader-level reveal)
The narrator captions the throne’s hidden occupant on-page: “KING OF THE WORLD — ST. NERONA IMU ” / “CREATOR OF THE WORLD GOVERNMENT (ONE OF THE FIRST 20) .” The empty-throne fiction is formally contradicted for the reader. (In-world secrecy status stays OPEN — no character-level reveal yet; the deeper Void-Century payoff stays forward.)
(The reveal recasts every prior “Gorosei = highest power” beat as a misdirection. Routes to Imu Identity , Five Elders True Nature , Void Century and Ancient Kingdom .)
Ch. 1168 pp.9, 13 — Imu shown seated on the throne, speaking to King Harald in the Elbaf flashback (further on-page reinforcement, pre-payoff).
Earliest known caller
(Unrecorded.)
Why this matters
The single largest authority-reframe in the series: the World Government does not sit atop the world’s power structure — a hidden sovereign does. Routes to Empty Throne .
