Why this matters
The flag is the single most load-bearing prop in the Drum arc. Wapol destroys it (Ch. 147), Luffy raises a duplicate from the wreckage and articulates Hiriluk’s doctrine word-for-word (Ch. 148), the cannons fire under it (Ch. 153). The flag’s three-stage journey — debut → destruction → resurrection — tracks the doctrine’s three-stage journey (planted → suppressed → fulfilled).
The flag is also the source of Chopper’s hat-emblem (the X-cross). Chopper-as-wearable-flag and the castle-flag are the same symbol; the chapter that re-raises the castle-flag is the chapter Chopper formally declares he will fly that symbol at sea.
